Who hasn't heard of the cult films Titanic, Avatar and Terminator? Nobody, that's right! James Cameron, who brought all these famous universes to life, now classics, is considered one of the greatest directors and screenwriters of his time. The Cinémathèque française will be paying homage to his entire body of work in an exhibition opening in the French capital from April 4, 2024 to January 12, 2025!
In"The Art of James Cameron", visitors will be able to discover the history and life of the filmmaker, as well as his achievements, through numerous rare items from his private collection, exhibited for the very first time. Visitors will be able to journey through almost six decades, to understand the trajectory of the ideas that gave life to these films and left their mark on the seventh art.
The man many consider a genius started out with pen, pencil and brush, before moving on to the camera and the use of cutting-edge, often avant-garde technologies. The exhibition plunges visitors into worlds ranging from the marvellous to the terrifying, thanks in particular to video-mapping and interactive devices.
Also discover projects that never saw the light of day, and retrace the filmmaker's favorite themes and motifs that recur regularly in his films, such as"untamed worlds", creatures and "exploring the unknown", through nearly 300 original works, including costumes, sketches and 3D devices.
Immerse yourself in the intimacy of James Cameron, with the help of the filmmaker's highly personal written and oral commentaries on his own creative and artistic evolution, in a complete and exceptional exhibition, almost an autobiography!
