Ukraine and its culture in the spotlight... From February 9 to June 9, 2024, La Gaîté Lyrique offers a unique window on contemporaryUkraine through an exhibition entitled Ukraine, vision(s) - Documentary photography and literature in resistance. This free retrospective is the fruit of a collaboration between the French collective MYOP and the authors of PEN Ukraine. It offers a captivating dialogue between texts and images, highlighting the challenges and resiliencies of a country in the grip of unprecedented turbulence.
At the heart of this exhibition is the synergy between MYOP photographers and Ukrainian writers. Founded in 2005, MYOP brings together twenty-one documentary creators, all driven by a common desire to tell, through their lenses, a sensitive and subjective story of our changing world. These diversified photographers - journalists, artists, film-makers - have joined forces here with the authors of PEN Ukraine, an entity of International PEN. Together, they weave a visual and textual narrative that defies the silence and obscurity imposed by war.
PEN Ukraine, an integral part of International PEN, plays a crucial role in protecting freedom of expression. Since 1921, this organization has been committed to supporting threatened and persecuted authors, defending linguistic and cultural rights, while promoting humanist values through culture and literature. The Ukraine, vision(s ) exhibition perfectly embodies these ideals, promoting understanding between peoples and preserving humanity's cultural heritage.
It's an opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the realities of contemporary Ukraine, exploring its challenges through the eyes of those who live and document them.
