Looking for a great way to discover a beautiful museum in Versailles? Let's meet every last Sunday of the month in Versailles. The Musée Lambinet, Versailles' art and history museum, is an 18th-century town house. Built for Joseph-Barnabé Porchon, one of Louis XV's building contractors, it became a museum thanks to the bequest of Mme Nathalie Lambinet in 1929. Opened to the public in 1932, the museum has been enriched by purchases, gifts and bequests, constituting a veritable "collectors' museum".
The museum offers a wide variety of works in different techniques, from the Renaissance to the mid-20th century: paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, furniture and objets d'art. The art of living in Versailles in the 18th century, and the history of the town, particularly the French Revolution, are the main themes of this museum, which has been a "Musée de France" since 2004.
After three years of renovation, the Musée d'art et d'histoire de la ville de Versailles reopened its doors to the public on Saturday December 3, 2022. This museographical reorganization followed the restoration of the windows on the rue Baillet-Reviron façade, giving a new coherence to the Musée Lambinet and affirming its identity as a "collectors' house".
The permanent collection is now structured as follows:
