The Prix Sisley Beaux-Arts de Paris for Young Creation is awarded this year to Nina Jayasuriya. After Karolina Orzelek, Ymane Chabi-Gara, Clédia Fourniau and Barbana Bojadzi, it's the young artist's turn to shine with her free exhibition "Chat noir, Chou Blanc", from June 13 to July 12, 2024, at Sisley's headquarters, just off the Champs-Élysées.
Since 2020, Sisley and Beaux Arts de Paris have been collaborating to supportcontemporary art with this prize highlighting the exceptional training of young graduates. The reward? A scholarship and an exclusive exhibition at Sisley, to propel talent to the forefront.
Nina was born in 1996, is of Sri Lankan origin, and graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris with honors in 2023. Her exhibition "Chat noir, Chou Blanc" plunges us into a universe where the sacred flirts with the everyday, through installations combining ceramics, tattooed leather and everyday objects.
She invites us to rediscover everyday objects from a different angle, recuperating, modeling and transforming the little things into fabulous pieces and creating spaces-temples where the intimate and the sacred merge. Nina reinvents the artisanal gesture in an age of global overproduction, celebrating the small, invisible gestures of our daily rituals.
Handling ceramics like a virtuoso, she creates zones of meditation and contemplation, reinventing our relationship with space and time. With Nina Jayasuriya, the ordinary becomes extraordinary!
