Sculpture lovers, mark your calendars! The Musée Bourdelle is hosting an exhibition of works by two renowned sculptors, Auguste Rodin and Antoine Bourdelle, entitled Rodin/Bourdelle: Corps à corps, from October 2, 2024 to February 2, 2025. The exhibition promises to be a veritable dialogue between these two sculptural giants, bringing together over 160 works to explore their respective creative worlds, and highlighting the connections and divergences between these two masters, opening a fascinating window on the evolution of modern sculpture.
From the very first rooms, theexhibition plunges visitors into the intimacy of the complex relationship between master and pupil. Bourdelle, who worked alongside Rodin for fifteen years, was often seen by Rodin as a "pathfinder to the future". The inaugural section of the exhibition explores their collaboration, focusing on the role of the practitioner, Rodin's "extension of his hands", and culminating in the masterly Eve on the Rock, on loan from Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen. Visitors are invited to slip into the shoes of these sculptors thanks to a unique interactive digital device, offering a captivating immersion into the creative process.
The tour continues with an exploration of the aesthetics of the fragment, the ability of Rodin and Bourdelle to give expressive autonomy to parts of the human body, such as the head, hand or torso. This section highlights the impact these fragments had on modern art, notably through works by Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Constantin Brancusi and Alberto Giacometti. Finally, the last section of theexhibition, devoted to metamorphoses and hybridizations, highlights both artists' fascination with mythology and their innovative interpretations of figures such as centaurs, revealing the form's inexhaustible creative potential.
The exhibition Rodin/Bourdelle: Corps à corps concludes with a reflection on the legacy of these two major sculptors, whose influence had a profound effect on the avant-garde. An unmissable event for art and history lovers, sure to provoke admiration and reflection.
