On the occasion of Fashion Week Haute Couture, Sotheby's Paris unveils the latest chapter in Karl Lagerfeld's exceptional personal collection. From January 24 to 31, 2025, the renowned auction house opens the doors to the intimacy and creative genius of the Kaiser of fashion at a free exhibition, just a stone's throw from the catwalks on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. An online auction will bring this vibrant tribute to a fitting close.
Thefashion exhibition highlights the many facets of Karl Lagerfeld: couturier, designer, photographer, writer and passionate collector. This fifth and final edition explores the treasures of his iconic residences, from his sketches to his personal effects and iconic pieces of clothing.
Sharpened sketches, original designs, boosted with pure creativity, Karl Lagerfeld' s hand was as sharp as his mind. Colored felt-tip pens, watercolors, make-up and Tipex were all used to give life to ideas ranging from the romantic to the boldly modern. These graphic works reveal the man behind the myth, the man who drew the zeitgeist with insolent precision.
The exhibition is also an opportunity to discover Karl's backstage life. Handwritten letters, postcards, scribbled notes or photo albums: his private world is revealed in fragments as touching as they are unusual. You'll even come across everyday objects - musical equipment, mementos of an insatiable aesthete - proving that Karl had a knack for mixing the traditional and the trendy, the serious and the original, always with a touch of humor.
Sotheby's marks the end of an exceptional saga: after four masterful sales, this fifth act celebrates once again the legacy of a man who redefined the luxury industry. From his beginnings at Fendi in 1965 to his reign at Chanel from 1983, not forgetting his Chloé years and his eponymous brand, Karl made every collection an event.
Join us from January 24 to 31, 2025 for a free immersion in haute couture and confidences, before the Sotheby's gavel seals this historic chapter. Karl forever!
