"Work is the bane of the drinking classes"... This quote fromOscar Wilde fits perfectly with Galerie Perrotin's new exhibition devoted to American artist Nick Doyle and entitled Business, Pleasure, Pressure, Release, on view from January 31 to March 8, 2025. The artist has transformed this contemporary art space into an atypical, immersive installation ( Human Ressources ), described as a " friendly neighborhood kink bar ", part ephemeral bar, part gray office enclosure, part critique of consumer society. A singular artistic experience to discover for those who like to reflect on the themes of work, sexuality and power.
The installation offers an audacious re-reading of office culture, transposing it into a liberated and experimental universe, via the denim canvas. Through this project, Nick Doyle questions the relationships between gender, sexuality and hierarchies, while deconstructing the norms associated with the professional environment. This immersive staging invites visitors to rethink their own frames of reference in a space conducive to personal expression.
In addition to this artistic experience, the exhibition is distinguished by the direct participation of the artist. Nick Doyle will be on hand to meet visitors and serve them a drink in his installation transformed into a bar. Please note, however, that the bar will only be open to the public late on Saturday, February 1, as the artist returns to the USA. Please note that the bar will remain in place after this happening, as a work of art, and that objects will be on sale there (including the artist's dirty underwear).
At the bar, you can sit at the counter and be handcuffed, choose a cocktail with a very particular taste(Blood, Sweat or Tears, which taste more or less like their name...), or have the wheel spun by a waiter who will then give you a folder with various "fetishizations" (light SM scenes) in poster form. It's a great opportunity to talk to an artist and discover a world that challenges the usual conventions!
Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health, please drink responsibly.
