For Monumenta 2016, the Réunion des Musées Nationaux has invited Huang Yong Ping to confront the grandeur of the Grand Palais. The Chinese artist, considered the founder of contemporary art in China, and currently living in Ivry-sur-Seine, will present an immersive installation that aims to surprise.
Spotted in France for his participation in the exhibition Les Magiciens de la Terre (1989), where his machine-washed books invaded the space of the Grande Halle de la Villette, and applauded for his life-size
Arche de Noé(Arche 2009, 2009) in the chapel of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, the artist enjoys working on surprising and monumental works, so he should be in his element under the 35m height of the Nave of the Grand Palais.

For Monumenta 2016, Huang Yong Ping is creating a huge immersive installation, Empires. The spectacular project "consists of a colored architecture made up of eight islets overhung by a structure whose shadow blends in meaning and form with that of the metal ribs of the glass roof, symbolizing today's economic world".
In this way, the installation represents the contemporary world, a commercial war between the 8 parts of the world, which confront each other like Empires, reflecting on strategies, tactics and politics. We feel the weight of commerce, the snake that slowly seeks power, represented by Napoleon's Little Hat, while controlling the birth or death of societies!
After l'Etrange Cité, a large, white and slightly eerie labyrinth presented by Russian artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov in 2014, we can't wait to discover Huang Yong Ping's colorful Empires!
