The Château de Cheverny, classified as a historical monument and located 2 hours from Paris, reveals superb gardens and animations. With its domain of nearly 100 hectares, Cheverny is an ideal breath of fresh air for weekends and holidays: you will discover the famous castle of Tintin, but also very beautiful thematic gardens, a large park with trees and beautiful furnished rooms.

The Château de Cheverny, located in the Centre-Val de Loire, two hours from Paris, celebrates in 2022, its 100 years of opening to the public. Indeed,in 1922, Cheverny was the first private castle to open its doors to visitors! 100 years later, it has not lost its charm and offers a wealth of discoveries and beautiful animations to seduce young and old.

When we visited during the Easter vacations, an incredible number of Easter decorations adorned the gardens and the interior of the castle. It was also the end of the flowering period of the tulip beds which form an incredible colorful carpet in spring .

The Apprentice Garden, a pleasure garden that occupies the former site of a French garden that disappeared long ago, but whose original plans still exist.

The Sweet Garden which was created during the confinement. This orchard of 370 trees and shrubs offers apple trees, quince trees, cherry trees, persimmon trees, fig trees and others .

Then or before, we go to discover the castle, a beautiful monument of the XVIIth century. Inside, many unique pieces of furniture take us into the history of the place. The Château de Cheverny is known to be one of the Loire Valley castles that has one of the most beautiful collections of furniture, with a superb decoration and a remarkable density .

This castle still inhabited by its owners is particularly well preserved. The apartments on the first floor are witnesses of the French art of living with the birth room, the children's room, the dining room and the bride's room.

In the Salle d'Armes, it is possible to discover Gobelins tapestry dating from the 17th century or a chest of drawers made at the time of Louis XIV in the Boulle style.

Lovers of literature and especially of comics are invited to dive into the history of Tintin. Indeed, it is Cheverny that inspired the cartoonist Hergé for the Castle of Moulinsart. You can discover in an annex of 700 m2, a permanent interactive exhibition called"The Secrets of Moulinsart" which is done in addition and which takes us from the underground of Moulinsart to the laboratory of Professor Sunflower, through the bedroom of Tintin and the dining room of the castle.

The castle also offers you the discovery of the forest estate in a commented cart followed by a boat ride along the water. For 30 minutes, you will discover the majestic hundred-year-old cedars and the elephant-footed Louisiana bald cypresses which have the particularity of being immersed in water. An exotic walk that may lead you to stroke a tree for luck... Beware also of crocodiles...

Finally, as far as restaurants are concerned, note that the Orangery, facing the gardens of the Château, offers picnics and hot dishes in the dining room or on the terrace. It is also the ideal spot to quench your thirst or enjoy a gourmet snack. Hot chocolates and homemade tarts are yours.

In short, for a complete stroll to discover the monument, gardens and exhibition, here is what you need to spend a good time. Concerning the visit, it is made according to your choices. You can choose to visit the gardens alone for 8€, the gardens and the castle for 13,50€ or 8,50€ discounted, the version with theTintin exhibition for 18€ or 13,50€ discounted and the complete version with exhibition, cart and boat all included for 23€ or 18€ discounted. Count on 18,50€ or 14€ for a reduced price for the version without the Tintin exhibition.

For the good plan, note that whatever the chosen ticket, for 2 full price adult tickets for grandparents and 2 reduced price tickets for grandchildren, the cheapest reduced price ticket is offered. The gardens and the castle can be visited in 1 to 2 hours while the full version will take you 3 to 4 hours.
