27 Pantin: an open-air museum dedicated to street art

In June 2021, the residents of Pantin discovered a new neighborhood. After long months marked by the health crisis and its many restrictions, the Îlot 27 neighborhood in Pantin inaugurated a veritable open-air museum, of which it can now be proud. Dubbed 27 Pantin, the project is designed to be artistic, cultural, human and participatory.

At the instigation of the Maison du Projet, which is in charge of regenerating the district, 27 Pantin has invited over thirty artists to come and color and embellish the site, located just a few meters from the Hoche metro station (line 5). From Demoiselle MM to Kashink, not forgetting Da Cruz, Djalouz, Jo Ber, ALpacman, Lolo Nawak, Pia and Moyoshi... all these street artists lent themselves to the game, creating incredible frescoes on the walls of several of the district's buildings, giving a new lease of life to local residents and schoolchildren.

And the results are sure to put a smile on anyone's face. Today, 27 Pantin unveils a veritable stroll through the neighborhood's buildings, featuring colorful frescoes by Louyz, Deuz, Rémi Ciero and Claks One.

What a surprise it was to discover the collective work of the Murals association, in which children from the Eugénie Cotton school and the Gavroche leisure center, as well as local residents, took part. Here, the marine world takes center stage. Octopus, sea turtle and whale compete with each other on the floor, while fish and other shellfish sublimate this beautiful participative work. The highlight is a sperm whale by Funki Sign on which plastic bottles have been glued. The message is clear and unmistakable: raise awareness of the problem of plastic in the oceans.

While the original idea behind 27 Pantin was to open up the Îlot 27 district, the result goes far beyond this. Today, 27 Pantin is a veritable artistic and cultural spot where reflection has its rightful place, and where meetings and exchanges with local residents are not uncommon.

Inhabitants who seem happy and delighted with the project. Proof of its success is the fact that none of the works has yet been damaged. The works should remain in place for a total of three years, before disappearing and allowing new frescoes to be created.

In the meantime, come and discover them with your own eyes during guided or self-guided tours. The Maison du Projet de Pantin is organizing a series of tours lasting an average of 1h30 in the company of Sigismond Cassidanius, lecturer and urban guide.
