The state forest of Montmonrency, in the Val-d'Oise département, is particularly well known for its vast chestnut grove. Formerly a royal hunting forest, it now offers beautiful walks for all levels, as well as more technical hikes, among its ponds, large plains and other remarkable trees.
With a surface area of 2,200 hectares, it's the largest forest in the Val-d'Oise département, and now you can discover this state-owned forest (or at least part of it) on a free, original nature treasure hunt. Open your ears and listen in on the Montmorency forest around the Chateau de la Chasse pond - a must-see spot in the forest - with the Augmented Forest app.
You'll be guided by geo-located sounds, poems, music and historical sketches: just grab your hunting game booklet and off you go! The good news is that this treasure hunt is entirely free: all you need to do is download the application onto your smartphone or tablet, and bring a Bluetooth speaker and headphones or earphones for each participant. Set off in search of the forest's treasure, and if you're successful, you can collect your reward at the Montmorency tourist office whenever you like. Happy hunting!
