Built in the 1980s and 1990s, the Trúc Lâm Thiền Viện pagoda is a Buddhist place of worship in the Essonne department. Like the famous pagodas in Evry, Vincennes and Lieusaint, it's open to the public and allows you to discover - in keeping with all places of worship - its pretty garden and this unusual building in the Paris region.
Among the pagoda's various rooms, the most important is undoubtedly the prayer hall, richly decorated to accommodate the prayers of the faithful as well as services. Another room is dedicated to Buddha, and another to the pagoda's founder, Thich Tâm Huy. One Sunday every 15 days (10am-12pm), a meditation session is organized and open to all.
Access to the prayer room is only possible if there is no ceremony in progress, otherwise the pagoda is open daily from 9am to 11am and from 3pm to 5pm. Every Sunday, the pagoda also offers lunch on site, with a home-cooked vegetarian meal prepared by members of the Trúc Lâm Buddhist Institute (€15 per person).
The pagoda is accessible by public transport, using RER line B: get off at the Lozère stop, then walk for around 30 minutes. To discover this traditional Vietnamese pagoda, head to Trúc Lâm Thiền Viện in Villebon-sur-Yvette!
