Not far from Gare Saint-Lazare in the 9th arrondissement, Hanoï Corner is open from 11am to 4pm on weekdays and from 2pm to 6pm on Saturdays. This is the first coffee shop in Paris to offer authentic Vietnamese coffee from small-scale producers. Nam and Linh, the founders, roast their coffee in Paris to guarantee optimum freshness, and make a point of working with producers committed to an environmentally-friendly approach.
As soon as you enter, you're greeted by a warm atmosphere, marked by a decor that blends traditional Vietnamese elements with a fresco of Ho Chi Minh. Here you can enjoy the famous cà phê sữa đá, an iced coffee with condensed milk, as well asegg coffee, whose creaminess is reminiscent of the famous tiramisu.
Is it all coffee? Que néni! Hanoi Corner offers more than just good coffee. Their menu includes classic Vietnamese dishes such as banh mi and bo bun. The banh mi, a traditional half-baguette, is gaining in popularity. It's topped with carrots, cucumbers, pickles, and a choice of grilled pork, beef, five-spice chicken or tofu, all spiced up with a lightly spiced homemade sauce. We like the low-sugar, well-vinegarized vegetables, which add pep to our Vietnamese sandwich, served while still warm.
Bo bun, the famous rice vermicelli salad with strips of beef, grilled pork, five-spice chicken or the vegetarian option we love so much, is another must-try. These dishes are prepared according to Linh's family recipes, offering authentic yet modern Vietnamese cuisine, far from clichés. Linh's dumplings, for example, are full of flavor.
The Hanoi Corner experience is complemented by a range of Vietnamese coffees with rich, complex aromas. Nam is a brilliant barista with a passion for coffee, selecting robusta and arabica beans roasted weekly in Paris. Indeed, coffee in Vietnam is essentially robusta, which adapts well to the soil. Long shunned for its bitterness, Robusta is now finding its feet, and you'd be surprised to discover the notes of a light Robusta specialty coffee.
The coffee is extracted using the traditional Vietnamese filter, releasing the full depth of flavor. At Hanoï Corner, we can talk for hours about coffee. In addition to the classic Viet and egg coffees, Hanoi Corner also offers cococcino, a dessert coffee with coconut milk, and desserts such as chiffon cake with pandan or manioc cake.
In short, for a good Vietnamese coffee for a change, head to Hanoi Corner, located at 7 rue Blanche. The spot offers lunch formulas including a banh mi or bo bun, a drink and a dessert for a reasonable price (€12.50 to €16.50). With its welcoming atmosphere and carefully selected products, this Vietnamese coffee shop is a must for a good time and a treat in the heart of Paris.
