Rendez-vous aux Jardins is an initiative of the French Ministry of Culture, which celebrates France's most beautiful gardens and green spaces every year during the first weekend in June. The event invites young and old alike to explore green spaces that are often little-known or usually closed to the public. On the program: educational workshops, conferences, art exhibitions and guided tours led by gardening enthusiasts and landscape art specialists.
The Jardin Botanique de Sannois, nestled in the Val-d'Oise region of France, is a pretty garden that attracts botanical enthusiasts and families in search of tranquility. Created in the early 20th century by renowned landscape architect Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, this botanical garden was originally designed to educate the public and promote plant knowledge through an impressive collection of plant species, including many medicinal, local and tropical plants. There are collections of old roses, fruit trees and several varieties of medicinal and aromatic plants. The park is also famous for its magnificent redwoods and its water features, which create an ideal microclimate for certain rare species.
On the program for Rendez-vous aux Jardins 2024 at the botanical garden in Sannois (95):
If you're curious enough to push open the door to discover these medicinal plants, the first sod was turned in February 1985. After sixteen months of hard work, it was inaugurated on June 29, 1986.
The size of the site meant that it was not possible to display a large number of species, so specialization became a necessity. The choice of medicinal plants offers the advantage of knowing which ones have all the remedies for our ills and are the origin of most medicines.
