Les Nuits des Forêts, the nature festival from June 7 to 16, 2024

Published by Communiqué Sponsorisé · Published on May 24th, 2024 at 12:26 p.m.
From June 7 to 16, the Nuits des Forêts festival invites us to meet the men and women who contribute to the upkeep and protection of our forests, and to reconnect with nature in a sensitive way through shows, art exhibitions and other atypical and immersive experiences, day and night. Here's a sneak peek at the 40 participating forests in the Paris region!

PROGRAM IN PARIS (75)

JARDIN D'AGRONOMIE TROPICALE | JUNE 7 TO 16
with the Cité du Développement Durable

For this special occasion, the Cité du développement durable offers a rich program, celebrating the fourth participation of the Jardin d'agronomie tropicale de Paris in the Nuits des Forêts. A memorial legacy linked to France's colonial history, created as a research site where seeds from the colonies were planted and analyzed as early as 1899, this constantly evolving garden is a place to question and rediscover.

From June 7 to 16, for the duration of the Nuits des Forêts, here's what's in store: open-air shows, guided walking and cycling tours, workshops highlighting biodiversity and eco-theatre, a captivating interactive fresco, some 20 floating architectures designed to be colonized by plants, unforgettable night-time immersion experiences, and much more!

This diversified program, blending science and art, aims to question our relationship with the living world,
, and to offer an immersive and original experience that will reconnect us with an essential part of the Bois de Vincennes, a Parisian natural area of almost 1000 hectares. The event will also raise awareness of the world's forests and their preservation, as international forestry issues, more topical than ever and a source of concern, are closely linked to the history of the Jardin d'agronomie tropicale and to the expertise of the members of the Cité du développement durable, who look forward to welcoming you in large numbers for these Nuits des Forêts!

LE HANGAR Y, IN MEUDON | JUNE 15
with Hangar Y

Hangar Y, built for the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1878, deconstructed and reassembled brick by brick in 1879, has just reopened its park in spring 2023! This living space features protected trees such as a 25-meter-high plane tree, and an atypical fauna: large capricorn beetles, kite dwarfs, redstarts, green woodpeckers, nuthatches...

Entitled "Si la forêt m'était contée" ("If the forest were told to me"), the program proposed on June 15 by Hangar Y in its wooded park is made up of artistic installations, an immersive experience, guided walks, and readings/performances in the forest that will bring together the fascinating world of the forest and that of culture and the arts. It's a program dedicated to families, highlighting our site's environmental heritage and the relationship between man and nature.

LE BOIS DE CLAMART, IN MEUDON | JUNE 15
with Thérapies et Mieux-Être and Les petits pois sont verts à Clamart

At the gateway to Paris, the Meudon state forest is a veritable green lung, a structuring element
among the natural spaces of western Paris. A favorite strolling area for the people of Clamart, the forest offers beautiful oak and chestnut groves interspersed with birch and, more rarely, hornbeam, elm, ash and wild cherry trees. The paths that criss-cross the forest take you to the main sights: the Sainte-Marie fountain, the Pierre aux Moines and the anemometer, installed in 1870 by the military engineers.

On June 15, come and (re)discover this forest through a variety of games and cultural activities on the themes of
the environment and well-being! On the program from 2pm to 10pm: deep time walk, storytelling walk and "almost true" stories, treasure hunt, discovery of essential oils and wild plants, Afghani breath harmonization walk... And to finish, enjoy a zero waste picnic!

FORÊT DOMANIALE DE MARLY-LE-ROI | JUNE 8 AND 12
with Association Amis de la forêt de St Germain-en-Laye et Marly-le-Roi

20 km west of Paris, the Marly state forest has been shaped by history: abbeys, medieval fortresses, hunting grounds, and a strategic location for the protection of Paris that has left its mark on military works. This 1,749-hectare massif suffered from the storms of 1999 and then the drought of 2003, which caused the trees to die back (almost exclusively hardwoods, with oaks and chestnuts dominating) and the forest's health to deteriorate. To restore the forest, foresters have had to undertake a major renewal of the stands, in the form of regeneration, which involves cutting and opening up the plots. In this context, they strive to minimize as far as possible the inevitable impact of felling and silvicultural work on the landscape. Rich biotopes are preserved, in particular some fifty ponds that contribute to biodiversity.

On June 8 and 12, discover 10 secret ponds, treasures of biodiversity, during a silent
stroll at dusk, or with the enlightened explanations of an ONF regional forestry technician! Perhaps we'll be lucky enough to come across some watering animals?

BOIS DE VERNEUIL (VERNEUIL-SUR-SEINE) | JUNE 12 AND 14
with Adiv Environnement

The Bois de Verneuil has a long, not always happy history. On December 28, 1925,
Princess Mélanie de Ligne, Duchess of Beaufort Spontin, sold 190 ha of her estate, including 144 ha of woodland, to the Société Immobilière de Verneuil Vernouillet, with a view to building a large housing development. Thanks to the tenacity of the local residents, this project was partially cancelled, but for a long time they had to pay very high taxes to reimburse the developer. In early 2000, a project to divert the RD154 also threatened the forest, and the Adiv Environnement association fought against it for 20 years. The local people are therefore very attached to their forest! There are still many old, even very old oak trees in certain parts of the forest that have not been exploited. As for the chestnut trees, they are affected by the ink disease.
For the Nuits des Forêts, the Adiv Environnement association invites you to two events:

  • On June 12, let yourself be enchanted by a silent walk through the forest to a clearing to listen to a short concert of Baroque recorder music.
  • On June 14, let yourself be guided on a deep time walk: a storytelling stroll through 4.6 billion years of Earth's history in 4.6 km...

ESPACE RAMBOUILLET (SONCHAMP) | JUNE 14
with Espace Rambouillet

Espace Rambouillet was created by the Office National des Forêts (French National Forestry Office) on the basis of a founding idea: to enable you to
reconnect with nature and better understand it by immersing yourself in the mysterious and legendary
forest. A visit to Espace Rambouillet is a chance to meet over 200 large animals (stags,
fallow deer, hinds, roe deer and wild boar...) and 150 birds of prey. The forest is the Earth's protective skin, and the Tree - sensitive and intelligent - shelters and protects so many species even after its death. Strolling through the Rambouillet forest soothes us and helps us better understand the many eco-systemic services it provides. A visit to Espace Rambouillet also means taking to the skies with eagles, owls and falcons, and understanding their role in the chain of life. Between dog and wolf, let us guide you through the wild forest to the eagle trail during the Nuits des Forêts, and discover a special scenography!

→ Free with reservation: link to come on the Espace Rambouillet website

FORÊT DOMANIALE DE FAUSSES-REPOSES | JUNE 12
with the Office National des Forêts

The very name of the Fausses Reposes state forest derives from the expression "faux repos" (false rest)
used in hunting, in reference to game that took shelter in ditches to hide from hunters.
Formerly a royal estate, it was laid out for the needs of hounds, as evidenced by
the hunting pavilions and star-shaped crossroads. The forest became state-owned during the French Revolution.
Dominated by chestnut and oak trees, this 630-hectare forest is full of charm: as you stroll through it, you'll appreciate the beauty of its ephemeral streams and the presence of numerous
birds, including several protected species.

Are you wondering what the ONF's missions are? Join us on the morning of June 12 for a
forestry tour to learn more about multifunctional management with a forester.

FORÊT DE LA RÉSERVE NATURELLE RÉGIONALE VAL ET COTEAU DE SAINT-RÉMY (SAINT-RÉMY-LÈSCHEVREUSE) | JUNE 15 with Le souffle des histoires

This regional nature reserve, a genuine island of biodiversity in the heart of a valley marked by massive urbanization
, includes environments classified as ZNIEFF (Zone Naturelle d'Intérêt Faunistique et Floristique) and is protected in particular for its mountain species (rare in the Paris basin), which are present due to its microclimate. According to the oldest known cartographic archives (18th century), the Bois de la Guieterie has been a forest for several centuries. From the 1850s to the 1930s, the site was used by quarrymen, who exploited the site's mineral resources: sandstone on the slope to make cobblestones, and
millstone on the plateau, widely used in construction in the Paris basin.

On June 15, discover the secrets of the Bois de la Guiéterie through two walks with two voices: nature walks for the general public, blending the fantastic, dreamlike, sensitive and philosophical dimensions of storytelling with an ecological, scientific and naturalistic approach along a set path, presenting "points" of interest of various kinds in the overall narrative of this 4-handed event. Follow in the footsteps of a storyteller and a reserve manager to (re)discover a forest full of mysteries. Along the way, awaken your senses, listen for naturalist features... and stories that stand the test of time.

BOIS COMMUNAL DES ARCADES (BUC) | JUNE 8
with the commune of Buc

Dive into the heart of the true vestige of a park that went wild a century ago! The
communal Arcades woodland, bordering the Versailles state forest, was once the park of the château of Rebichon de La Guérinière (squire to King Louis XV). This explains why, in addition to
forest trees (oaks, chestnuts), there are also park trees (horse chestnuts)
and old yews. The Bièvre (a tributary of the Seine) flows through the park. Situated alongside the river, the wood is
humid... Nearby, you'll find an aqueduct built under Louis XIV to supply
with water for the park of the Château de Versailles.

On the evening of June 8, discover bats, guided by chiropteran naturalist Quentin Rouy! The forest at night is shrouded in mystery and fear in the collective imagination. Mysterious beasts inhabit it. Learning a little more about them will help to allay fears and make them more welcome.

À L'ÉTANG DE VAUBERSAN (BULLION) - ESPACE NATUREL RÉGIONAL DE BOISSY I JUNE 8 AND 16
with Ville Verte and Cie Musique à voir

In the commune of Bullion lies a delightful, bucolic spot that few Yvelinois know about, apart from pike and zander anglers: the Etang de Vaubersan. The Département, owner of this Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS), has renovated the site to offer walkers a safe and exceptional landscaped area. At the end of a short walk through the undergrowth, the walker discovers a serene space, a preserved nature. The flora and fauna here are exceptional. There are 28 species of dragonfly, including 3 protected at regional level, making it one of the richest sites in the Yvelines.

The department invites you to join us for 2 days:

  • June 8 with Ville Verte: Spend a night with the bats! At dusk, take part in a nocturnal adventure to discover these fantastic animals, observe their nocturnal ballet and hear their conversation.
  • June 16 with Cie Musique à voir: Come and enjoy the two-voice musical show "La Sagesse
de l'Herbe". Anne Le Maître loves surveying the planet and life. Whether on a day hike or just a stroll, everything speaks for itself, making sense as the seasons change. Because a path is also an inner journey, this plea for respect for living things leads, through contemplation and letting go, to the wisdom of the grass, with which we urgently need to reconnect. Bach, Fauré,
Debussy, Mel Bonis, Shostakovich, Khatchaturian... accompany this bucolic stroll.

Free admission with registration - for June 16 - for June 8 .

FORÊT DE CHAMPAGNE-SUR-SEINE | JUNE 8
with the municipality of Champagne-sur-Seine

The Champagne-sur-Seine forest is a haven of biodiversity, very wet in winter due to the
resurgence of numerous springs. Mainly made up of oak, Scots pine, chestnut and grisard, it covers 50 hectares and is part of the Forêts Pédagogiques network. Currently, a hydrometric study of the old hydraulic network is underway, to investigate the possibility of recreating spring water retention basins: this would provide the forest with water reserves to combat global warming, and lessen the impact of droughts
.

On June 8, from 2 to 10 p.m., the town hall will be hosting a rich program of activities: games and observations in
la nature, a rejuvenating forest bath guided by an energy specialist, a large picnic accompanied by
wildlife photography, a poprock concert brimming with energy... and powered by an autonomous
bicycle generator!

ESPACE NATUREL SENSIBLE DU PARC SACHOT À SAINT-FARGEAU-PONTHIERRY | JUNE 15
with the Mairie de Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry

On June 15, come and discover the forest in the evening for a giant cluedo! To mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation, discover the forest through a nocturnal cluedo in small independent groups. The forest makes noises, sends out scents. In certain places, it can surprise and hide secrets. The forest is a place where the Resistance hid, fomented actions against the occupying forces, and hid weapons and allied soldiers.

This 37-hectare green setting boasts exceptional biodiversity, in terms of both flora and fauna, in its wooded, grassy and damp areas. A former château park, at the time it was mainly used for a variety of crops. In 1713, the château was fitted out with a garden, woods, park and avenues. There are orange, fig and other fruit trees, as well as vines. In August 1944, it was destroyed by the Germans, and shelters were dug by American troops.

L'AUTRE PARADIS, POLIGNY | JUNE 15
with association l'Autre Paradis

The Poligny forest is the little twin of the Fontainebleau forest, which it adjoins, and shares its fascinating history with it: the ancient tropical sea present in this region, which gradually dried up into a lake 23 million years ago, left a thick sedimentary layer - the formation of the future sandstone rocks. The play of erosion has given the forest many reliefs, alternating chaos, flatlands, wet valleys and even seas of pure sand. At the heart of
this forest is a private park, a garden created in the 1960s by an artist as his life's work, and carefully preserved. It combines all the treasures of the Poligny forest: pink sandstone boulders, small limestone cliffs, views of the village and forest, white sand, mingled with ornamental elements such as wrought-iron bridges, a small temple and ponds.

Les Nuits des Forêts will be held at the L'Autre Paradis forest healing garden on Saturday June 15 from 6 to 10 p.m., offering 5 forest experiences: anthropological and poetic sound siestas by Florence Evrard and Cédric Peyronnet, a tour with geobiologist Stéphanie Desmaret, discovery and protection of the medicinal forest with Myrtille Gillet, a concert/sound bath with Senso Léone & Myrtille, and a silent night walk.

FORÊT DOMANIALE DE NOTRE-DAME (LÉSIGNY) | JUNE 12 AND 14
with Entre Deux and Mairie de Lésigny

In the Middle Ages, this forest was owned by the clergy and nobility and belonged to Notre-Dame de
Paris, which explains its current name; its oaks are said to have been used to build the framework of the cathedral of the same name!

Discover it on two days:

  • On June 12, take part in the construction of a unique warthog sculpture using natural and recycled materials.
  • On June 14, spend an immersive evening in the heart of the forest! On the program: art off the beaten
track. After a short stroll to the secret location of the evening, you'll be able to discover the sculpture created throughout the week. You'll also be able to listen to a podcast about space travel and our connection to the earth, produced by two classes of Lésigny schoolchildren with the Mon Grand L'ombre company. Bring good shoes, appropriate clothing and a torch for the return journey.

MASSIF DE FONTAINEBLEAU AT MONT-USSY, BARBIZON AND STATION BARBEAU | JUNE 8, 9 AND 15

with association COAL, Musée des peintres de Barbizon and Station Barbeau

The exhibition "Théodore Rousseau, the voice of the forest", currently on view at the Petit Palais and the Musée des peintres de Barbizon, reminds us that in 1853, the painters and artists of Barbizon achieved the unprecedented feat of having the Fontainebleau forest protected by imperial decree, by classifying it as an Artistic Reserve. The public's attachment to this iconic massif has continued to grow, and over the years, Fontainebleau has remained a great witness to French forestry, at the crossroads of public, scientific and silvicultural concerns. More than 150 years later, at a time when forests are threatened more than ever by climate change and loss of biodiversity, the Fontainebleau massif once again illustrates the major forestry challenges of its century: 50% of its trees are now showing signs of decline. So how can we make a commitment to forests today? Foresters, scientists, artists and citizens are mobilizing, each in their own way, to preserve them and share them better.

For the Nuits des forêts, forestry initiatives, artistic visions, scientific research, naturalist curiosities and eco-somatic experiences are brought together in a collective program offering a range of creative walks to discover, experience and live to the rhythm of the forest. Each walk will be guided by a well-known expert in his or her field, and punctuated by a variety of presentations. By combining different approaches, developing our knowledge and listening to these living creatures, we can better defend and protect them.

with Silvarea / Qi Cabane

Isolated in the woods of Fontainebleau lies a large cabin surrounded by forest. Built in the 1960s by an artist, it lies at the heart of a one-hectare site with a strong historical background: the surrounding area was one of the first natural sites to benefit from a protection measure, along with the Barbizon Painters' Reserves. A precious reservoir of biodiversity, it is home to a wide variety of environments and over 1,200 animal and plant species, offering a veritable mosaic of landscapes.

SILVAREA / Qi_cabane invite you to build inspiring and engaging stories of desirable futures
. The June 15 program includes a fun and instructive stroll, resonances with artists and
sonothérapeutes, a sound bath, a massage, a concert by Lin Chiwei and a dance party after the Barbizon program, with Gryllus on the decks for the night. FORÊT DOMANIALE DE SÉNART | JUNE 8
with Voyage Métropolitain

The Sénart forest lies to the south-east of Paris, at the western end of the Brie plateau, between the Seine and Yerres valleys. Its clay subsoil and lack of relief are responsible for the presence of some 800 ponds, forming an ecosystem with a wide variety of habitats. Covering some 3,000 hectares and visited by 3 million people a year, the forest is Essonne's "greatest monument".

On June 8, take a journey into the depths of the forest during a collective itinerary designed as a truant school, punctuated by scientific, documentary and artistic interventions to better understand the complexity of the forest. Explore the different environments that make up the forest, and learn more about its geographical context, its history and development, its current role and the challenges it faces in the future. The walk is as much a physical and sensitive experience as it is an intellectual one. Quickly, between ponds, streams and waterfalls, explore the huts, try a night walk, taste the lichen! Stop for bark drawings, readings, listen to the bats...

Seine-Saint-Denis (93)

FORÊT DE BONDY | JUNE 8
with artist Philippe Cusse

On June 8, immerse yourself in the Bondy forest with a walk and art workshop! To represent is to look for a long time; the pretext for looking for a long time is to draw or paint a piece of landscape, or a detail of nature. For landscape sculptor Philippe Cusse, it's a way of understanding a non-artificial universe, unlike our suburban cities, and at odds with zapping culture. By creating a landscape installation in situ around a beech tree (classified as a remarkable tree), he bears witness to the suffering of trees in the face of drought, and denounces inaction in the face of accelerating global warming. Necessary equipment: bring drawing and painting materials, a rigid support and drawing paper or a sketchbook.

Good news: an additional
date may be offered if there are many of you!
