The Maison-musée Raymond Devos in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse is taking part in Rendez-vous aux Jardins 2024 this Sunday, June 2. This national event invites the public to explore exceptional gardens and take part in themed activities. On this occasion, you can freely visit the two-hectare garden of the Maison-musée, follow in the footsteps of Raymond Devos, and discover creative workshops around the five senses. The events are open to all, and only the upper part of the garden is accessible to wheelchair users.
Located in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, the Maison-musée Raymond Devos is a place dedicated to the memory of one of France's greatest humorists. Raymond Devos, renowned for his puns and absurdist humor, lived and worked in this house for several decades. After his death, the house was transformed into a museum, allowing the public to discover his unique world.
The Maison-musée preserves much of the artist's furniture and personal objects, offering an authentic immersion in his daily life. Visitors can explore the office where he wrote his sketches, as well as the living room where he received friends and collaborators. Permanent and temporary exhibitions also feature previously unseen archives, photographs and videos, providing a deeper understanding of Raymond Devos' career and work.
The Maison-musée's two-hectaregarden is a place where nature and culture meet. Raymond Devos spent many hours here, often finding inspiration amidst the greenery. Today, the garden has been laid out as a tribute to his creative spirit. The Garden of Words is an original installation evoking the humorist's favourite language games. Visitors can stroll through the paths, discover quotations and extracts from his works, and be surprised by artistic installations.
The Maison-musée Raymond Devos is committed to making culture accessible to all. Although only the upper part of the garden is accessible to people with reduced mobility (PRM), ongoing efforts are being made to improve the site's accessibility. In addition, the garden is maintained in an ecological manner, respecting biodiversity and natural cycles.
In addition to tours, the Maison-musée regularly organizes cultural events, workshops and shows. The Rendez-vous aux Jardins 2024 are part of this dynamic, offering visitors an immersive, interactive experience. Creative workshops based on the five senses, for example, allow visitors to rediscover nature through the prism of humor and poetry, in homage to Raymond Devos.
