Umami, importer of Japanese products, continues to put Asia in the spotlight in Paris by opening the first Matcha café, between République and Carreau du Temple: Umami Matcha Café.
What is matcha?
It is a fine powder of green tea leaves that we know especially in France in cooking and pastry. It has many virtues including being energizing and relaxing thanks to its anti-oxidant content.
You can therefore find it in this new coffee in all its forms. From breakfast to afternoon tea, in salted or sweetened version or simply in its most traditional form, whipped in its bowl, to be drunk as a latte, iced or even in beer!
Umami has carefully selected its matcha from organic farming (like its other teas), which comes from the Kyoto region in Japan.
In addition to the teas, there is also a lunch menu, with a choice of 3 dishes, depending on the market and the seasons, but also small portions to share. Not forgetting the domburi made of fresh products, to be tasted on the spot or to take away.
The decor is borrowed from the Japanese culture, while being very cosy. You have about forty seats in the room or along the counter.
But also a small grocery corner where you can find a lot of Japanese products such as yuzu juice, dashi, noodles, miso but also of course the high quality teas of Umami. On sunny days, the glass roofs open to enjoy the sun.
A totally new place that offers you a one-way ticket to Japan!
