Petting a cat whilst enjoying a cup of coffee is the fairly... revolutionary idea of this cats' bar, named -in a pretty straightforward way- Le café des chats (the cats' coffee), which opened September 21, 2013.
Though the idea comes straight from Japan, the concept was made possible in Paris thanks to Margaux Gandelon, with the consent and support of the SPA - the Society for the Protection of Animals.
As Directmatin points out, "it is indeed from a SPA refuge that will come the dozen or so of cats that will be present in the place".
And let us say that we definitely believe that cat lovers will grow fond of the café des chats. In order to support this project, Margaux Gandelon appealed to a crowdfunding platform (website for a collective financial contribution). An approach that has already led her to collect 35,754 euros out of the 40,000 euros needed for the launch and functioning of the bar which should employ three full-time staff .
Incidentally, we should point out that these cats will be closely monitored by the team as well as veterinarians. Also, so as to create a routine for them, the Café des chats plans to open its doors all week without interruption.
And for those who might worry about hygiene, the coffee shop has thought of everything. The kitchen remains closed to cats and an area out of reach of humans is dedicated to them. You will be able to have lunch, dinner or even brunch, but also a drink or just a coffee. The place is cozy and quiet. Ideal for a little "love and affection" break with your (girl)friends or with children, who tend to love these cats.
