If a good day doesn't start without a good cup of coffee, then head for Back in Black, the new coffee shop in the Bastille district.
At the helm are Nicolas Piégay and the KB Coffee Roasters team, who opened their Paris address last June. The focus here is on exceptional coffees, precise roasting and meticulous preparation methods. All the beans are blind-tested and validated by your team, with taste being the only thing that counts.
It has to be said that the team knows its stuff. In 2010, Nicolas Piégay was one of the first to launch into specialty coffee with his KB Cafeshop on rue des Martyrs. Since then, the team has become even more specialized, roasting its own beans since 2015!
The next step seemed obvious: the opening of Back in Black, a 200m2 space that combines production and tasting. Here, the team roasts directly on site, for all to see.
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. non-stop, you can come and taste coffees from all over the world, which change with the seasons: espresso, filter coffee, iced coffee... There's something for every taste, from the amateur to the most experienced palate!
What's more, to ensure that the experience continues at home, Back in Black also has a store corner where you can find all the equipment you need: grinders, scales, kettles, filter or piston coffee makers, etc.
To accompany this caffeine-filled tasting experience, Back in Black offers a food menu, served continuously and devised by chef Mina Idyoussef. The menu features an all-day breakfast inspired by Brooklyn, Los Angeles and Sydney. From sauces and pickles to bread and jams, everything is homemade! You'll love the chocolate passion bread, the sweet and savory pancakes and the Rösti Zaatar, a potato pancake topped with vegetables, pickles, roasted hazelnuts and a fried egg.
And when I say homemade, I mean everything from the bread to the jam! The dishes are made to order, and they're really delicious, so we recommend them. It's the ideal spot for late lunches or breakfasts, or for gourmet snacks.
And to learn even more, Back in Black regularly offers tasting workshops!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
