Recently opened in the 11th arrondissement, Source has two faces: on the one hand, a cheese shop that honors perfectly sourced cheeses, and on the other, a wine cellar that highlights living, natural, organic and biodynamic wines. All sprinkled with good advice!

Newly settled in the 11th arrondissement, a stone's throw from the Atelier des Lumières, cheesemaker Didier Grosjean and his wife Chloé Salgado have opened Source, a neighborhood cheese and cream shop with a wine cellar. A place where beauty and goodness rhyme with well-sourced ingredients.

Trained at the Marché Saint-Martin, then working for Nicole Barthélémy and running a cheese shop on the Ile Saint-Louis for 7 years, this son of Parisian bakers was inspired to open a place in touch with local residents, while highlighting French terroir and that of his neighbors.

On one side of the store, a hundred or so varieties of seasonal cheeses, the vast majority French, farmhouse and raw-milk, but also fromItaly (spoon-fed Gorgonzola and Parmesan), Switzerland (Appenzeller), the Netherlands (raw-milk Gouda) andEngland (Stichelton and several cheddars, including one matured for 18 months). All come fromartisans and producers handpicked by the owner, whose invaluable advice and recommendations are followed to the letter.

Among the very good things we tasted were farmhouse ewe's milk tomme and the divine Périgord truffle brie made on the premises with strips of real truffle (forget the truffle oil!), available throughout the holiday season. Other seasonal must-tries include Mont d'Or by the slice and raclette (farmhouse and made with raw milk!), available in bear garlic, Espelette pepper and pepper versions...

On the other side of the store is the wine cellar, with some sixty references. On the shelves are natural, organic and biodynamic wines, selected by Didier Grosjean and his partner after meetings with winemakers on their estates. At Source, wine is as clean as it is French!

Several times a year, the address organizes free meetings with winegrowers to taste their vintages, with no obligation to buy, but with discounts available if you fall in love with a bottle.

Other products at Source include jars of honey on the delicatessen side, and churned butter and crème fraiche on the dairy side. The address the neighborhood has been missing!
