If there's one food shop sorely lacking in this corner of the capital, it's a good cheese shop. La Fromagerie du Louvre , which opened a year ago a stone's throw from La Samaritaine, has quickly become a landmark for lovers of quality French cheeses.
The man behind the cheese shop is no novice. After opening his own wine shop, Les Caves du Louvre, Nicolas Paradis decided to showcase another aspect of French savoir-faire.
A blend of cheeses anddelicatessen products sourced from carefully selected producers, Fromagerie du Louvre is run by Thibault Dupas, a cheese enthusiast through and through, Ambre Boutibou, herself a cheese enthusiast, and Charlie, the source and person in charge of maturing the cheeses on site - take a look at the Maison's creations, some of which are veritable floral gems.
In the display cases, a selection of cheeses from all over France will delight cheese fanatics, from Brie de Rothschild with truffle slivers to Bleu de Termignon and Perail des Cabasses. All these marvels can be enjoyed on platters or even in picnic boxes of cheese, charcuterie and other delicacies. The little plus? A QR on the box that lets you find a nearby picnic spot!
Recently, the Fromagerie du Louvre has also started offering sandwiches to take away or to enjoy on site, on the cheese shop's terrace. A good baguette, slices of cheese, charcuterie if you like, a farm yoghurt and an artisanal drink to wash down your throat. What if happiness lay in simplicity?
And to take things a step further, the Fromagerie du Louvre offers cheese-tasting workshops accompanied by sakés, beers and spirits in the adjoining Caves du Louvre!
