M Gallery Collection by Sofitel, an intimate collection of 75 boutique hotels, has just opened a brand new address near the Grands Boulevards: L'Echiquier Opéra. The designers, Yann Le Coadic and Alessandro Scotto, wanted to recreate the hushed atmosphere of early 20th-century Parisian apartments. To do so, they wanted to preserve the soul of the place, which has been a hotel since 1850.
When you cross the threshold, you're in a Belle Epoque atmosphere, thanks to the meticulous work of numerous craftsmen. Mosaic floors, cabinetry, upholstery, ironwork, decorative paintings...
You'll love the winter garden-style bar, under an imposing glass roof in the spirit of Parisian passageways, reminiscent of life on the Grands Boulevards in the late 1800s. Head for the magnificent mosaic central bar, with its play of mirrors and lights, its decorative friezes... Rattan also plays an essential role, paying homage to the early 20th century, but not without a certain contemporary flair!
The hotel's 88 rooms are also representative of Parisian life. It's like entering an apartment, with the famous door curtain to preserve a certain intimacy. Ceiling moldings and embroidered cushions take guests back to another era. Some rooms have a view of Montmartre, others have a balcony overlooking the rooftops.
In short, everything in this new hotel is designed to celebrate the Paris of the early 20th century!
Rooms start at 175 euros.
