The world of gastronomy has been hit by the announcement that Guy Savoy and Christopher Coutanceau's restaurants have lost their third star in the Michelin Guide 2023.

The Michelin Guide has announced, via AFP, that several world-renowned chefs have been downgraded in the Michelin Guide 2023, which will be revealed in its entirety on Monday, March 6 in Strasbourg.

Today, we learn that the Michelin Guide has downgraded from 3 to 2 stars the restaurant of chef Guy Savoy at the Monnaie de Paris - a three-starred restaurant since 2002 - as well as the restaurant of chef Christopher Coutanceau in La Rochelle - which had obtained its third star in 2020. As a reminder, Guy Savoy's restaurant was named best restaurant in the world by La Liste last November for the sixth consecutive year.

"These are exceptional restaurants, so you can imagine that these decisions are carefully considered, supported by numerous visits by our inspectors throughout the year," Gwendal Poullennec told AFP. The guide's boss spoke during the day with Christopher Coutanceau and by phone with Guy Savoy, while the bitter memory of Bernard Loiseau's suicide still lingers 20 years later.

This is the first downgrading of a 3-star restaurant since 2019 and 2020, years in which the restaurant of chef Marc Veyrat, La Maison des Bois in Haute-Savoie, and the restaurant Paul Bocuse in Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or (Rhone) were downgraded.

Three other restaurants are concerned by this downgrading, going from two to one star: Restaurant Michel Sarran (Toulouse), the Table de l'Alpaga (Megève) of chef Alexandre Baule and the restaurant Jean-Luc Tartarin (Le Havre) of the chef of the same name.
