In the heart of Paris's prestigious Golden Triangle lies Beefbar Paris, a restaurant distinguished not only by its gastronomy but also by its fascinating history. Located on rue Marbeuf, this legendary venue was once the address of the former Fermette Marbeuf, opened in 1898 and famous for its Art Nouveau decor. Today, the restaurant offers a unique atmosphere where haute gastronomy meets history and art.
As you step through the doors of Beefbar Paris, you are immediately transported to another time. The décor, classified as a historical monument since 1983, is a veritable masterpiece of Art Nouveau, the work of architect Emile Hutré and ceramist Jules Wielhorski. The main hall, under a majestic glass roof, is adorned with murals, stained glass and glazed ceramics, creating a luxurious yet intimate atmosphere. At the entrance, the other part of the restaurant, more contemporary and modern, offers a sunnier setting for lunch.
Restaurateur Riccardo Giraudi has brought this hidden treasure back to life. Entrusting the renovation to architects Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet, he preserved the historic soul while adding a modern touch. Since its reopening in 2018, Beefbar Paris has quickly established itself as a benchmark, even winning the award for the world's most beautiful historic restaurant at the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards in London in 2019.
When it comes to cuisine, Beefbar is all about top-quality meat. With a menu centered on certified Kobe beef, but also options for pork, veal and even fish dishes, the restaurant offers a rich and varied culinary experience. Each dish is carefully prepared, whether grilled, barbecued or teppanyaki, and elegantly presented.
Among the dishes on the menu, we tried the Angus Beef Tacos, which are swallowed in no time, the Amberjack Ceviche and the Kobe Beef Jamon with its ultra-moist panettone. On the main course, steak frites with secret sauce are a must. Lovers of good fries won't want to miss the generous version with parmesan and truffle, while piscivores will opt for the semi-cooked tuna.
For dessert, let yourself be tempted by the astonishing Marbled Chocolate Bar by Yazid, a stunning trompe l'oeil of marbled beef that hides chocolate, caramel and crunchy cookie at its heart.
There's also a bar with an attractive menu of cocktails and mocktails.
But beyond the gastronomic experience, it's the history of the place that fascinates. Le Beefbar Paris hides some surprising anecdotes. In 1978, during renovation work, a wall in the storeroom of a neighboring restaurant was pierced, revealing a forgotten Art Nouveau décor, a space once designed as a greenhouse, adorned with frescoes of pink flamingos and female silhouettes. This rediscovery enabled the site to be restored with the help of Dina Vierny, the famous model and collector.
In 1982, a similar discovery was made at Maisons-Laffitte. A winter garden identical to the 1900 room was auctioned off and saved from a tragic fate. The stained glass and tiles, meticulously dismantled and numbered, were reintegrated into the Fermette Marbeuf, further enriching the history of this exceptional place.
Looking for a unique address in Paris, where history and good food meet? Le Beefbar Paris is that destination. A place where every dish comforts you, and every moment a tribute to art and culture. We're not going to lie, the restaurant isn't cheap, but if you're looking for an elegant setting, where past and present blend harmoniously to offer a gourmet experience, here's a place to discover. For the smart eaters, opt for the €39 starter, main course and dessert lunch menu.
The restaurant has also recently opened a more affordable sister restaurant:
