In the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Le Procope, the oldest establishment in Paris to serve coffee, and representative of literary and intellectual Paris, renews and expands with a gourmet wing. Indeed, the historic restaurant invites us to discover its new Salon de Café - Glacier, a significant evolution of this emblematic place that is reviving its glorious past. Known for its renowned brasserie, this legendary address reaffirms its heritage as the capital's first coffee house, where Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli pioneered the art of serving coffee in the 17th century.
The new lounge, designed as a space for conviviality and sharing, reflects the original spirit of Procope. It features a décor designed by Friedmann & Versace, offering a sumptuous setting for savoring different declinations of coffee, iced creations with Italian flavors, and exceptional pastries such as the new Tarte au Café by Christelle Brua.
Le Procope continues to celebrate the art of coffee, using both ancient and modern brewing techniques, highlighting the aromatic richness of coffee. Visitors can also sample traditional Italian espresso, carefully prepared from organic beans.
The reinterpretation of the Tarte au Café by Christelle Brua, recognized worldwide for her talent, adds a contemporary touch to the show's offering. This gourmet creation combines coffee praline chocolate and coffee cream in a perfect balance of flavors and textures. We love the balance of this low-sugar pastry. As crunchy as it is crunchy, with a melting chocolate heart, we're in for a treat.
Ice cream, another Procope speciality, is given pride of place with a selection of flavours made from top-quality ingredients, such as Piedmont hazelnuts and Sicilian pistachios. Indulge in traditional cuts or original creations such as theAffogato al Caffè. For our part, we went for the decadent Mont Blanc version. With its chunks of glazed chestnuts and pour-over melted chocolate, it's a delight we recommend you share.
In addition to coffee and ice cream, Le Procope offers a collection of in-house liqueurs in collaboration with Baccae, a Parisian urban distillery, offering unique flavors to be discovered in this historic setting.
The work of interior designers Virginie Friedmann and Delphine Versace is a thing of beauty. Their meticulous approach has created a space that pays homage to Le Procope's rich history while offering a modern, elegant experience. The coffee lounge, with its bespoke furnishings, finely carved woodwork, and décor adorned with paintings evoking the aromas of coffee, is a true work of art. In addition, pleated fabrics have been incorporated to enrich the texture and add a warm touch to the wood surfaces.
While the design doesn't stand in complete contrast to the existing décor - which, let's face it, is already sublime - it does stand out from the other spaces. This new tea room, with its exquisitely upholstered banquettes and armchairs, is a real invitation to relax. It's a place where you can experience Parisian history and culture while enjoying exquisite food. We loved discovering this Saint-Germain-des-Prés gem, where every detail, from floor to ceiling, has been designed to delight your eyes.
It's a lovely way to refresh Procope 's image, which hasn't changed in centuries. You'll love going there, and with a 16.50€ snack formula served from 3pm to 7pm every day, it may even be a recurring thing.
