At the crossroads of the Boulevard des Capucines and the Opéra Garnier, the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand, one of Paris's most emblematic hotels, invites you to enjoy a unique experience. Under the historic glass roof of its winter garden, this Parisian landmark has integrated a new gourmet rendez-vous: its Afternoon Tea.
Every weekend, from 3pm to 6pm, you can immerse yourself in the warm ambience of the Second Empire, while enjoying a tea time worthy of the finest tea houses.
You're immediately captivated by this winter garden, a real comforting cocoon, inviting you to a timeless interlude. And to think that in the past, this place was a courtyard where people parked to access the ballroom. A word of advice: look up and admire the beautifully sculpted facades above the glass roof, which wasn't finally installed until 1905, transforming the place into a tea room, much to our delight today.
The selection of teas from the four corners of the globe is impressive. Special mention should be made of maté and matcha, which require special know-how for perfect tasting. But it's undoubtedly the food that will please you most.
This is a "British" tea-time, presented with savory and sweet dishes in the English style, but with a Parisian identity. Madeleines and financiers replace scones, while fingersandwiches are complemented by duck foie gras confit, fig-raisin chutney and salmon.
Of course, you'll also find the must-try items from the Intercontinental and Café de la Paix (same house, same set): the Opéra and the famous caramelized Millefeuille we love so much. We're seduced by the seasonal fig tart. Finally, our favorite is the airy Mont Blanc Blackcurrant tart, crunchy and fresh without being too sweet, it's a delight.
The Tea Time menu at La Verrière:
Savoury platter :
Plate of mini pastries :
Assiette gourmande: filled with financiers, madeleines and jams.
There's also a whole range of pastries to discover in the window, enough to satisfy even the greediest of palates.
All in all, it's an ideal outing to enjoy with family, lovers or friends for a sobritish moment, but resolutely made in Paris. If you're looking for a magical setting and a delicious afternoon tea, this is the place to be.
The price is 50 euros for one person, or 65 euros if a glass of champagne is included. For two people, the price is 90 euros, or 115 euros with a glass of champagne each.
