Urban forests in Paris: two projects gave up by Anne Hidalgo, three new sites presented

Even more greenery in Paris. This is one of Anne Hidalgo’s new mandate goals as Paris mayor. To do so, four urban forests projects have been announced in June 2019, two have been definitively let go, and three other new sites have been unveiled. The forests planned rue Curial and Place de la Catalogne are to be erected very soon.

Paris: a reception center for refugees opens in Paris 1st arrondissement

Invited for Le Grand Jury on October 4, 2020 Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo confirmed a daytime reception center for refugees was to open soon. It will be set in the premises of the former 1st arrondissement town hall at the Place du Louvre.

Rugby World Cup 2023: We Love 2023 Tour train inaugurated with Anne Hidalgo in Paris

Hosted in France, the Rugby World Cup 2023 train has been inaugurated this Tuesday September 8, 2020 by Paris mayor, its deputy for Sport and French Rugby Federation president Bernard Laporte. Named We Love 2023, the train will leave from Paris Gare de Lyon on September 9 to travel the roads of France until October 12, 2020.

Paris: Lafarge cement manufacturer suspected of discharging polluted waters into the Seine

This is an ecologic scandal making a splash. Paris public prosecutor has opened an investigation in late August against the LafargeHolcim cement manufacturer suspected of discharging into the Seine a mix of “particles of cement, process liquids and plastic microfibers”. Paris authorities have decided to file a complaint against Lafarge.

Paris opens streets to restaurants and bars from June 2

In order to help restaurants, cafés and bars to resume works in the best health conditions possible, Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo considers giving entire streets for them, and for free, until September 30, 2020. Restaurants and cafés interested must sign up on Paris City hall website starting Sunday May 31 and sign a charter committing them to respect the public area and neighbors. Paris mayor is also considering temporary closure, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. about twenty streets to keep them for café, bar and restaurant terraces.

Free cloth masks for Parisians: sign up now

Anne Hidalgo confirmed free cloth and washable facemasks will be given to each Parisian. Interviewed by LCI this May 5, Paris mayor says that these reusable masks will be available from May 11th in pharmacies. She said that "500,000 surgical msks will be avaialble this week given by arorndissement mayors to the most fragile people". Anne Hidalgo promised earlier in April that “two million cloth facemasks” will be “given” to Parisians in order to fight against the coronavirus epidemic.

Masks to be compulsory in public transit: security officers could fine

This April 28, Edouard Philippe presented the government's deconfinement plan to the National Assembly. In his speech, the Prime Minister said facemasks will be compulsory in public transit starting from May 11. Invited on Europe 1 radio station on April 29, Minister of Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari said "there will be sanctions if you were no mask in public transit".
