Starting from 2022, scooter and motorbikes will now have to pay for parking in Paris. Announced a while ago, this measure has been presented this Tuesday June 15, 2021 by David Belliard - Anne Hidalgo's deputy entrusted with transport and mobility. In all, 120,000 parking spots will disappear to give "more nature and more space to pedestrians and cyclists".

In Parisparking becomes charged for motorbikes and scooters. The municipal team already warned people at the end of 2020, but this is now official: motorbikes and other motorized two-wheelers will pay for parking starting from 2022 everywhere in Paris. Deputy mayor entrusted with transport and mobility David Belliard announced the news this Tuesday June 15, 2021 when presenting the conclusions of the parking general estates, the large citizen consultation led by the City of Paris.

In an interview with Le Parisien, the green deputy mayor explains while this measure is useful or even crucial. "Our mission is to remove half of the 120,000 parking spots in the capital city to meet climate, health and safety issues. We are committed into transformation towards more nature and more space for pedestrians and cyclists. But it involves we must define what we want to do with the space that will still be used for parking", Belliard explains.

Furthermore, the parking general estates were to bring a clear answer to this issue. Parking spots now have "three priorities of use: universal accessibility, less polluting and carbon footprint-free mobilities, professionals", the deputy adds. The regulation's in-depth modificiation is expected to be voted by the municipal majority for the next Council of Paris scheduled in July.

Parking scooters and motorbikes, at what cost? To realize the price list, you now have to understand "scooter and thermal motorbike users will have to comply with the same rules as car drivers, with rates yet divided by two, motorized two-wheelers needing less space", Belliard tells Le Parisien. For bikers and residing drivers, they should allow €22.50 per year for a parking card, and €0.75 for the day.

As for scooters and motorbikes visiting Paris, it gets more difficult. With the new monthly "pass deux-roues motorisés" - enabling to park your motorized two-wheeler in a parking - you should look what area you are in. In Zone 1 - from the 1st to 11th arrondissement - allow €90 per month. In Zone 2 - from the 12th to 20th arrondissement - allow €70. But, the hourly rate for visitors will be steep: €3 in Zone 1, €2 in Zone 2. Some exceptions are planned - specifically for professionals - with different rates: hourly rate for €0.5 in all Zones, or a yearly professional pro card for €240. But health professionals will have nothing to pay.

As the newspaper fairly says, about 100,000 motorcyclists drive every day in Paris, that currently features about 50,000 free parking lots devoted to motorized two-wheelers. The only ban for these two-wheelers so far? Parking on the sidewalk, or they can be assigned a €135 fine.
