The Musée Picasso is devoting an exhibition to the eponymous artist's daughter, entitled "Maya Ruiz-Picasso, fille de Pablo", from April 19, 2022 to January 1, 2023.

An unprecedented plunge into the intimacy of Pablo Picasso... From April 19, 2022 to January 1, 2023, the Musée Picasso is staging an exhibition of portraits of his daughter Maya, entitled Maya Ruiz-Picasso, fille de Pablo. The exhibition retraces part of the artist's life, and offers an opportunity to re-read some of his work through the prism of his relationship with his daughter, born in 1935 of his passionate relationship with Marie-Thérèse Walter.

This was a prolific period for the artist, who between 1938 and 1939 painted no fewer than 14 portraits of his daughter, Picasso's favorite subject at the time. These paintings underline"the complicity between father and daughter", as well as"the way Maya's presence nourished and amplified the artist's fascination with childhood". Through paintings, sculptures, paper cut-outs and memorabilia including correspondence, letters, poems and personal objects, Picasso reveals himself.

The exhibition also examines"Picasso's relationship with his children, particularly in the context of his Cannes years, during which the artist shared happy moments with his four children together". It was also an opportunity to celebrate the arrival of nine masterpieces at the museum - six paintings, nine sculptures and a notebook of drawings - via the "dation en paiement" system, which since 1968 has enabled the payment in kind of inheritance tax. These nine masterpieces also form the core of the exhibition's chronological itinerary.
