Who said that puppet shows were only for children? In any case, this is not the case with La langue des Cygnes, the show presented at the Mouffetard - Centre National de la Marionnette from March 9 to 22, 2023. Here, the director and puppeteer Laurie Cannac modernizes the traditional children's tale, adding puppets to the story.
It is the story of a child rejected by his community because of his difference, much like the inescapable ugly duckling, that children are told. From obstacle to obstacle, it is a whole path by which he must advance to accept himself, but especially, to make his weaknesses into real strengths. Inspired by Andersen's famous tale, the show celebrates self-acceptance and acceptance of others. The Compagnie Graine de Vie is at the helm of this poetic performance, with the help of Gabonese choreographer Andy Scott Ngoua, who draws his influences from hip hop, contemporary dance and African dance.
