Covid: the EU health pass extended to June 2023

The EU health pass, enabling to travel between EU countries requiring it, could be needed longer, one extra year than expected, until June 30, 2023, following the vote at the EU Parliament.

The European Commission wishes to extend the EU health pass for another year. The precious door opener, enabling EU travelers to move between countries requiring it, is to stop on June 30, 2022. But the Commission considers there are too many risks about the future of Covid-19 to remove it this year. It is then to be instated until June 30, 2023.

Europeans could then have to travel with a health pass longer. Although the majority of the Parliament is not against it, about 385,000 Europeans answered a few months ago to the popular consultation, and 97% of them were against the extension of the European certificate. In addition to the health pass, the European Union also voted for the certificate to be adjusted to new doses of vaccine and vaccination certificates to bevalid for those taking part in clinical trials.

In most EU countries, the health pass came to an end a few months ago. But as cases increase again, especially in France, shall we expect it to come into effect again? The French government yet wishes to reinstate it at borders.
