Let's head for the pretty town of Dourdan, in Essonne, France, for the 41st edition of the Journées du Patrimoine . This charming commune was built around its castle and medieval fortifications, giving it a cachet that has endured through the ages.
The town of Dourdan is proud of its castle, completed around 1222 by King Philippe Auguste. It is one of the few buildings in theÎle-de-France region to have preserved most of its defensive structures: dry moats, curtain walls, towers and entrance châtelet. A drawbridge and portcullis once ensured its defense, while archways pierced in the sides of the towers are still visible.
Bordered by a majestic forest, the town of Dourdan is highly appreciated for its historical heritage, and its natural areas offer beautiful walks.
