The Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris will be unveiling its backstage areas for the Journées du Patrimoine 2024, on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22.

The Journées du Patrimoine are always an opportunity to discover places not usually open to the general public, and this new edition is no exception! Among others, the Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris (Paris Historical Library ) will be welcoming you behind closed doors on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024.

Marvel at the 16th-century reading room with its painted beams, and its impressive collection of antique books (over a thousand!). Discover also the extension, inaugurated when the library moved here. It's also an opportunity to learn about the history of the building and its successive owners, as well as other remarkable items and objects not usually accessible to the public.

In 1763, the City of Paris decided to open a public library in theHôtel d'Angoulême-Lamoignon. However, the library was successively relocated to various buildings in Paris, before finally ending up in theHôtel de Ville de Paris. After a fire destroyed all its collections, the library was finally moved to theHôtel Carnavalet, before being moved again in 1968, within the walls of theHôtel d'Angoulême-Lamoignon, where it remains to this day.

    The Bibliothèque historique de la Ville de Paris welcomes you behind closed doors from 10am to 6pm. Marvel at the 16th-century reading room, with its painted beams and impressive collection of antiquarian books... and discover the extension inaugurated in 1969 when the library moved here.
    During the Journées du Patrimoine, you can also attend presentations on the history of the building and its successive owners, as well as on some of the library's most remarkable items.

  • Visit to the Paris Historical Library
    September 21 and 22

    The Bibliothèque historique is a heritage library specializing in the history of Paris and the Île-de-France region, literature and theater. It is part of the network of Paris municipal libraries.
    Since 1969, the library has been housed in the Hôtel Lamoignon. This 16th-century mansion was home to many aristocratic and literary figures. Its reading room features a painted ceiling dating from the early 17th century. Its décor evokes the hotel's first owner: Diane de France, daughter of King Henri II.
    On Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024, the 41st European Heritage Days will celebrate the heritage of routes, networks and connections, as well as maritime heritage.
    The European Heritage Days are always an opportunity to discover places that are not usually open to the general public.
    From 10am to 6pm, marvel at the 16th
