To mark Heritage Days 2024, the Shoah Memorial is opening its doors to the public, as usual, on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024. On the program: guided tours and encounters.

For the Journées du Patrimoine 2024, the Mémorial de la Shoah, located in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, welcomes you to its free program. The museum, with its extensive archives on public display, will be unveiling the private archives of deported Jewish men and women to the curious and other history buffs.

It is these objects and photographs, the last traces entrusted to the memorial by relatives and friends of the deportees, that guarantee the preservation of their memory. These private archives will be on display throughout the weekend, to help us remember, through the prism of both general and personalhistory.

Building against oblivion. As Justin Godart, Honorary President of the Comité du Martyr Juif Inconnu, once said, "a monument (...) is the lighthouse, the milestone on the path to the future, it indicates the road for tomorrow, which must never again see what it commemorates, and therefore must never forget". This architectural tour traces the history of the Memorial's construction from 1953 to the present day. Who was involved, what choices were made and what was at stake? It's a unique journey that takes us on a journey of discovery of the materials and symbols behind each stone.

  • Alfred Dreyfus, then and now
    Sunday, September 22, 2:30 p.m.

On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Alfred Dreyfus's conviction

In 1894, the arrest and trial of Captain Dreyfus testify to a breakdown in the principles of justice resulting from an authoritarian state. Dreyfus's guilt was proclaimed even before his trial. Anti-Semitism no longer targeted Jews alone, but threatened the Republic. Through the press, posters and films contemporary with the Dreyfus affair, this meeting explores this major event that deeply divided French society, and whose lessons can help us to fight anti-Semitism today.

In the presence of Laurent Bihl, lecturer in history at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, Vincent Duclert, historian and researcher at EHESS, and Dimitri Vezyroglou, professor of film history at Lorraine University.
