Le 19M, the Manufacture de mode Chanel, is once again taking part in this year's major cultural event, the Journées du Patrimoine in Paris, on September 21 and 22, 2024. Opened in January 2022 on the Paris-Aubervilliers border, the 19M has become the headquarters of the famous label.
A haven for Chanel art houses such as Paloma, Lesage and Ateliers Lognon, it also houses an art gallery and a gourmet café. While the workshops are rarely open to the public, the Galerie du 19M, the capital's new contemporary art spot, offers an eclectic, free program of art, performances, music, meetings and creative workshops (embroidery, etc.).
For the second year running, the19M is taking part in the European Heritage Days on September 20, 21 and 22. Echoing the "Lesage. 100 years of fashion and decoration" exhibition, visitors are invited to discover the company's workshops, set in the heart of exceptional architecture designed by Rudy Ricciotti.
In 2024, Maison Lesage, which specializes in embroidery and weaving, celebrates its centenary. To mark the occasion, the19M is offering a year-long series of events from Marseille to Dakar, Toulon to Venice, showcasing the exceptional skills of embroidery craftsmen, designers and textile artists from France and India, alongside contemporary artists.
This season of events, which places transmission at the heart of the Maison's DNA, is aimed at all audiences, including the younger generation, embroidery and weaving enthusiasts, those simply curious about craftsmanship, as well as fashion and decoration professionals.
Stage 1: Drawing and quilting workshops, embroidery and textile creation
Visitors discover the drawing and quilting workshop, the ancestral know-how that precedes embroidery work. The tour continues in the embroidery workshop, where craftsmen create prototypes for their customers. The tour ends in the textile workshop, where tweed samples are created on traditional looms.
Stage 2: Lesage Intérieurs
Founded by Jean-François Lesage in 1993, Lesage Intérieurs creates and develops exceptional embroideries for interior design projects. Whether for an armchair signed by an avant-garde designer, textile decorations for a decorative arts enthusiast or the reconstitution of the bed of one of France's most famous kings, Lesage Intérieurs strives to perpetuate the craft of embroidery, one of the oldest in the world, while drawing on the latest innovations.
Stage 3: the Jardin du 19M, a lung of greenery at the heart of the architecture
The structure of the 19M is built around a 2,600 square metre garden. This green setting is home to a wide variety of trees, plants and grasses; away from the noise of the city, with beehives, nesting boxes and perches, it has been designed as an ecosystem in its own right, respectful of the well-being of flora and fauna.
Stage 4: The "Lesage. 100 years of fashion and decoration" at the Galerie du 19M
From September 26 to January 5, 2025, the exhibition celebrates one hundred years of excellence and innovation by the embroidery and textile house. The exhibition also highlights new artistic forms born of the dialogue between embroidery and other mediums, as well as original collaborations with contemporary designers (fashion, plastic arts, decoration, space and object design...).
The exhibition route is punctuated by pieces of art craft created for Haute Couture Houses, exceptional as much for their technical virtuosity as for the allure of the silhouettes. A didactic and detailed panorama of the techniques, gestures and stages of creation will be presented, immersing visitors in the heritage and excellence of this House.
Stage 5: la Parcelle, a cultural garden for all
la Parcelle is a garden with a cultural vocation, a place where time can be regained, where young and old, families, residents and workers from the surrounding neighborhoods are invited to discover a program dedicated to the living, to emerging creation and to the values of craftsmanship.
Since June, associate partners based in Paris 18th, 19th and Aubervilliers have been involved in the life of the site and its programming: La Station-Gare des Mines, POUSH, La Corvée and CENTQUATRE-PARIS. The garden's upkeep and animation will be handled by two players who responsibly support the process of greening the city: Vergers Urbains and the Régie de Quartier Paris 19e.
