Once a year, on the third weekend in September, a magical spell descends on France, opening the doors to all the country's monuments, historic sites and art centers. Well, almost... No magic here, but a major cultural event that lets us enjoy France's rich heritage for a weekend.

This event is, of course, the Journées du Patrimoine, which are back for their 41st edition on September 21 and 22, 2024. To mark the occasion, several thousand important sites, both little-known and famous, welcome the curious of all ages. Rich in several millennia of history, crossed and occupied by different nations, different artistic styles and movements, various events, France has an exceptional heritage, hidden in every town and village.

That's right: you don't have to go far to discover unsuspected treasures! If you live inEssonne, and more specifically in the town of Corbeil-Essonnes, you can even take advantage of the many visits and activities specially prepared for these Heritage Days.

Saint-Spire Cathedral

  • Patrix or the battles of Count Haymon

    Rediscover the fabulous legend of Count Haymon, founder of the collegiate church of St. Spire and savior of the town from a monster. A historical-poetic show presented in partnership with the Société Archéologique et Historique de l'Essonne et de l'Hurepoix and the Association de Sauvegarde des Orgues et des Cloches de Saint-Spire.

    Discover the history of the town as you travel along the Essonne and Seine rivers.



Commanderie Saint-Jean

  • Les Chevaliers du Noble Jeu de l'Arquebuse

    Re-enactment and historical presentation of the Noble Game of Arquebuse by the Knights of the Compagnie de l'Arquebuse Royale de Corbeil in the gardens of Commanderie Saint-Jean.

Departmental fire and rescue center

  • Visit to the 91 Departmental Fire and Rescue Center
    Sunday, September 22, 9 a.m.

    Established in 1813, the Corbeil-Essonnes firefighting company has preserved and organized its memory: vehicles, clothing, various utensils and abundant archives are on display in the center's museum area.
    Visits every hour.

Galignani Guest House

    The Galignani hospital-hospice was built in 1866, despite a number of later alterations, and has retained its original layout. The chapel (usually inaccessible) features spacious rooms and interesting furnishings.   • Guided tour of the As-Salam mosque

    Discover the Mosque during a tour: from its construction and architecture to its organization, supported by a photographic exhibition
    You are invited to calligraphy your first name during a workshop to discover Arabic calligraphy.
    On Sunday September 22, join us for the exhibition Muslims in French history from 720 to the present day, to mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Corbeil-Essonnes mosque, accompanied by a lecture on the philosophers Averroes and Maimonides, who combined Greek thought with Islamic and Jewish traditions.

    In partnership with the Syndicat Intercommunal d'Aménagement, de Rivières et du Cycle de l'Eau (SIARCE), events are organized around the Essonne River in the heart of Robinson Park. On the program: educational activities on river management, the large and small water cycle, the missions and professions of the Siarce, guided tours of the hydraulic structures on the site
    Two guided tours of the Cirque de l'Essonne wetlands, presenting the history of the site, its development, and the local flora and fauna: at 11 a.m. and at 2 p.m.



  • Atlas of Biodiversity: explore nature near you!
    Saturday, September 21, 3:00 pm

    For the past year, teams of specialists have been criss-crossing the area, identifying and listing species - insects, flowers, trees, birds and amphibians - to create an Atlas of the city's biodiversity. It's a participatory initiative in which everyone can make a contribution.
    Come and take part in an urban exploration of the natural heritage along the Essonne, along the water and the vegetation, and in the census of communal biodiversity on the Inaturalist application!



Saint-Joseph des Tarterets church

  • Discover the new stained glass windows by Pierre Mabille and Ateliers Duchemin at Saint-Joseph-des-Tarterêts
    Sunday, September 22, 12:30 p.m.

    Guided tour of the contemporary stained glass windows by Pierre Mabille and Ateliers Duchemin, created and inaugurated in May 2023 for this beautiful little inner-city church. Screening of a video on the realization of the project and an animated film made by local schoolchildren, tour narrated by the builders' team, escape game and shared lunch at the end of the tour for those who wish (bring a savory or sweet dish and a drink).



Mosque of Corbeil-Essonnes
