The Musée de la Toile de Jouy is a must-see on the fashion itinerary of the Journées du Patrimoine 2024! A veritable nugget of textile history, it was founded in 1977 to celebrate the emblematic printed fabric of the same name, born in the 18th century in Jouy-en-Josas, in the Yvelines region of France. This fabric conquered the world with its poetic universe of rural motifs.
In the heart of a charming château, the museum offers a fascinating insight into the world of printed fabrics, the secrets of their manufacture and the great artists of the time. The collections illustrate the evolution of toile de Jouy through the centuries, creating a priceless heritage!
The Musée de la Toile de Jouy invites young and old alike to take part in the various horse games on offer. On the program: games of small horses, chamboule tout, hobby-horsing, puzzles, memorys ... You can even create and personalize your own pawn to play the game of small horses! Take part in all the events and get your official diploma!
In the presence of artist Sylvie Tubiana, come and discover the fourth part of her "Tisser des liens" series, begun in 2021 and devoted to the original Toiles de Jouy.
On the occasion of the 41st European Heritage Days, and in conjunction with the temporary exhibition "Le crin dans tous ses éclats" (horsehair in all its glory), the Musée de la Toile de Jouy welcomes craftsmen working with horsehair.
