On the weekend of September 21-22, 2024, the Journées du Patrimoine mark their annual edition with numerous visits, events and discoveries to be made in Paris or the Île-de-France region: discover the program near Pantin, in Seine-Saint-Denis!

As with every self-respecting month of September , this year'sHeritage Days take place from September 21 to 22: and, as usual, it's an unmissable opportunity to discover places that are open only once a year (during the Heritage Days). Ministries, churches, castles, museums, national monuments... The list is non-exhaustive and suitable for all publics, including families. If Paris is THE French destination for the Journées du Patrimoine, the rest of the Île-de-France region also offers some very fine visits, with a different but equally rich and historic heritage.

In the Seine-Saint-Denis department, in Pantin, just above the 19th arrondissement, along the Canal de l'Ourcq, numerous tours are on offer for the 41st European Heritage Days. The city is renowned for its cultural spaces, including the Conversatoire Jacques Highelin, the Magasins Généraux and the Conservatoire National de la Danse... So, for these Journées du Patrimoine 2024, set off to discover the city of Pantin, whether you know it or not, to find out all about its history!

As part of the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine 2024, the Magasins Généraux are opening their doors to the public for a unique tour of the building led by Frédéric Jung, the architect who rehabilitated it.
Built in the early 1930s, the Magasins Généraux left their mark on Pantin's industrial activity for over four decades. Abandoned and disused at the end of the 90s, the site was taken over by graffiti artists from all over the world, and dubbed the "cathedral of graffiti". In 2016, advertising agency BETC publicly inaugurated the Magasins Généraux, converted by architect Frédéric Jung. This marked the start of a new life for the Magasins Généraux, which became both a collective workplace and a new cultural venue for new voices in the heart of Greater Paris.

Inside, a large nave houses the 33-metre swimming pool, fed by an artesian well, lit by a glass roof and surrounded by two levels of passageways punctuated by cabin doors. The facility also includes a sports field and fitness rooms.
Listed as a historic monument in 1997, it reopened in 2022 after two years of renovation, the magnificent results of which we invite you to discover during a guided tour.
