The treasures of Paris are revealed during the Journées du Patrimoine 2024, which returns for its 41st edition on the weekend of September 21 and 22. During this not-to-be-missed cultural event, visitors can discover monuments, museums, institutions and places that are usually closed to the public , and learn about their history through visits that are often free and accompanied by special events. Every year, a whole program awaits us in the Paris region, and it's time to (re)discover some of the nuggets we regularly come across on our Parisian wanderings.
For example, in the heart of Paris, in the Châtelet district between the Forum des Halles and the Centre Pompidou, the Fontaine des Innocents is being illuminated for the Journées du Patrimoine 2024. This is an opportunity to learn more about its history, as it is a rare vestige of the former innocents' cemetery and the church that once stood there. A rare reminder of the district's past, the Fontaine des Innocents can now be admired from the center of Place Joachim-du-Bellay.

The Fountain of the Innocents, an emblematic monument in the Les Halles district, has undergone a major restoration operation lasting until June 2024.
Unveiled in 1549 to mark Henri II's royal entry into Paris, the fountain has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1862. Its sculpted reliefs by Jean Goujon are considered Renaissance masterpieces (nymphs, tritons, conchs, dolphins, etc.), particularly the five vertical nymphs.
Discover the history of the fountain and behind-the-scenes details of its restoration during a guided tour led by a curator from the City of Paris.
Meet at the foot of the Innocents fountain, place Joachim du Bellay (1st).
Event must be booked in advance.
