The Hôtel d'Avaray is a splendid private mansion located at 58 rue de Grenelle, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. Built in the 18th century, it is a typical example of the neoclassical architecture of the period. Today, theHôtel d'Avaray is the residence of theDutch ambassador to France. As a diplomatic residence, it is not usually open to the public, but opens its doors for the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) on Saturday September 21 for a free tour.
The Hôtel d'Avaray was built in 1718 by architect Jean-Baptiste Leroux. Over the centuries, it has changed owners and been modified, but has always retained its original charm. This prestigious mansion has been listed as a historic monument since 1926. The Journées du Patrimoine 2024 in Paris are an opportunity to discover this Parisian monument, usually closed to the public, during an open house!

Over the past 100 years, this three-century-old mansion has served as a showcase for political, economic, cultural and scientific exchanges between the French and Dutch.
The ground-floor salons d'honneur have been restored to their former glory since their complete renovation in 2017. Nestling between the courtyard and a lush garden, the architecture subtly plays with the visitor, while each piece of interior furnishings, whether fixed or movable, not only adds to the lustre of the premises, but also tells part of its fascinating story.
