The 40th edition of the Journées du Patrimoine! Like every year at the same time, this major cultural event is an opportunity to push open the doors of numerous museums and monuments all over France. This year, the event is not to be missed on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024. For painting enthusiasts, take advantage of the Heritage Days to visit the Maison-Atelier Foujita. Nestled in the small Essonne village of Villiers-le-Bâcle, the Maison-Atelier Foujita invites visitors to plunge into the intimate world of the famous Franco-Japanese artist.
A major painter of the early 20th century, as well as a ceramist, couturier, illustrator and sculptor, Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita was a complete artist, and his sublime home reveals all his secrets! With the kitchen and dining room on the first floor, the living room and bedroom just above, and the incredible studio on the top floor, the Maison Foujita is a listed historic monument, and in 2011 was awarded the"Maisons des Illustres" label.

Guided by visual artist Valérie Martin, experiment with one of the many techniques used by Foujita, a jack-of-all-trades at the crossroads of art and craft. Touch is at the heart of the artist's practice, enabling you to get to grips with the different materials he worked with: wood, metal, fabric...
Come and learn about manga, a Japanese illustration technique based on the art of line that Foujita mastered to perfection.
By creating an art of line that was very close to traditional Japanese illustration, while at the same time revisiting it, Foujita created an art of line that fascinated Osamu Tezuka, the "god of manga". This mode of illustration, with its codes and aesthetics, is familiar to young audiences. It's a vector for understanding the world and art for the very young, and a means of engaging in constructive cultural dialogue. The aim of this workshop is to introduce as many people as possible to the artist Foujita, through the specific codes of manga.
Initiate yourself to this ancestral Japanese art of creating shapes by folding paper. Accompanied by two talented animators, you'll learn the basics and subtleties of origami.
Enter the intimate studio of Léonard Foujita, a multi-faceted artist halfway between East and West. During your visit, you'll also discover his links with the 1924 Olympic Games and his passion for sports, particularly combat sports.
In conjunction with the "Corps athlétiques sur fonds blancs" exhibition, Philippe-Martial Moreau, author of Olympisme et Samouraïs, will take you on a journey through the history of judo's establishment in France. It's the perfect opportunity to find out more about the sport, but also about the links between Japanese and French culture through the prism of the martial arts!

Are you familiar with Noh theater, a traditional Japanese art form combining music, song and dance? The Eventail theater company, led by Raphaël Trano, will present short sequences from this ancient art form.

In the company of Patrick Cheenne, a tofu producer with the "Made in Essonne" label, learn how to cook tofu, a food derived from soya milk and inseparable from Japanese gastronomy.

This year, the artistic Pentathlon des Muses event from the 1924 Olympic Games is being revived. In the style of Foujita or manga, submit your drawing of a sportsman, real or imaginary, and be the lucky winner of our competition!
