It's the event synonymous with cultural highlights not to be missed in September. Every year, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) offer a host of free visits, unusual experiences and exceptional openings to the fascinating treasures that surround us. In Paris and Île-de-France, a rich program awaits us to discover behind-the-scenes nuggets at the heart of museums, monuments, châteaux, major institutions, ministries, embassies and much more. This event that brings together all passions awaits us this weekend of September 21 and 22, 2024, for a promising 41st edition!
In the Yvelines department, thetown of Rambouillet and its fabulous heritage will of course be taking part! And among the treasures highlighted for the Journées du Patrimoine 2024 is the Palais du Roi de Rome and its garden. This residence, destined to become the home of Napoleon I's son, was built using the plans of theHôtel du Gouvernement de Rambouillet, erected by order of Louis XVI between 1784 and 1785, which once stood here. Today, it houses a museum and its garden is open to the public.

With the help of a game booklet, set off to discover two of Rambolle's great figures who earned the title of Admiral of France: the Comte de Toulouse and his son, the Duc de Penthièvre. The game will take you to a number of monuments in the city: the Palais du Roi de Rome, the Pavillon du Verger, the Hôtel de Ville and the SHARY headquarters.
The game is available at the reception desk of the Palais du Roi de Rome.
Participating monuments are open between 2.30pm and 6pm.
Built from 1807, this private mansion was soon assigned to the Roi de Rome, son of Napoleon I and Marie-Louise of Austria. In the 1830s, it was divided between several owners and lost its central part. Today, the Pavillon du Verger stands in the garden adjoining the now public part. This recently restored garden pavilion dates from the early 1770s.
Every year, as part of our annual restoration programs, we restore a large number of board games and games of geese from our municipal collections. Come and meet one of the restorers of our collections: Aurélie Desachy. She'll tell you all about her fascinating job and present the work she's done on the board games currently on display at the Palais du Roi de Rome.
To showcase the dynamism and wealth of the Ile-de-France region's heritage, and encourage families and children to get moving during the Paris Olympic Games, the heritage department helped design the "Transilie Trophy, meet the challenge" game, run by the "Les Neufs de Transilie" association. So, are you ready to take up the challenge?
