This year, for the new edition of the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days), the MAC/VAL - the Val-de-Marne museum of contemporary art - invites us to discover its collections, and to take part in workshops suitable for young and old alike. The museum opens its doors free of charge on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024.
For two days, the MAC/VAL organizes multidisciplinary events and invites you to visit unusual spaces that are usually closed to the public!
If you're not familiar with the MAC/VAL, the Heritage Days are a great opportunity to discover this Val-de-Marne museum! It is the only establishment devoted to artistic creation in France since the 1950s, with 2,500 works purchased by the Fonds Départemental d'Art Contemporain du Val-de-Marne and housed in the museum itself. In addition, the MAC/VAL often supports artists by offering them residencies lasting several months.
The museum offers numerous exhibitions throughout the year, as well as workshops, social gatherings, performances, meetings...
Let us take you on an architectural tour of the MAC VAL.
A unique opportunity to discover the building, built by the Jacques Ripault and Denise Duhart architectural studio in 2005, and the permanent works on display.
Exhibition of artists' books from the documentation center's collection, and mini-workshops for all, continuous and free admission.
Open-access workshops for all ages 5 and up.
Exceptionally, the MAC VAL is opening the doors to its reserves.
Usually invisible and unknown to the public, the reserves play an active role in the life of the museum. It is within these walls that the museum's dynamism draws its inspiration, and where most of the work applied to the collection is carried out: study, research, inventory, registration, cataloguing, consultation, loan, restoration, maintenance, packaging, photographic photography, preparation of exhibitions....
For the final days of the "Humain Autonome : Déroutes" exhibition, artist Alain Bublex offers a marathon conference of 4 x 1h30 spread over two days, focusing on the history of automotive innovation.
Artist and automotive designer, Alain Bublex presents an atypical profile in the art world. After studying art, he joined the École supérieure de Design Industriel in Paris with the aim of designing cars. On graduating, he joined Régie Renault as an industrial designer, but the experience was cut short as his desire to design cars soon came up against the company's economic reality. He then decided to join the art world, which he felt was a better place to address his primary concerns, in a continual interplay between reality and fiction.
Marine Colard is convinced that sports commentary is an art form.
The choreographer is keen to take her research into the links between media voices and athletes' gestures to its logical conclusion, by exploring the sound dimension generated by these states of the body. Hyperbole, expressions, onomatopoeia... using certain techniques, the commentator transmits strong emotions to his audience. In a playful, offbeat tour of these vocal habits, Marine Colard makes us feel their musicality.
With Marine Colard and Sylvain Ollivier.

Artist-in-residence at MAC VAL from May to July 2024, Marina De Caro has created a major Olympic work: a physical challenge, a ritual, a staged form to respond to a shared desire for solidarity. "Conjurer l'horizon" takes the form of a monumental painting, a sculpture, engravings and a fictitious correspondence between Olympe de Gouges and Charles Fourier.
For the European Heritage Days, she will discuss this in situ creation with MAC VAL director Nicolas Surlapierre.
A great program to discover without delay! You can also take a look at the events taking place at various cultural and historical sites in the Val-de-Marne.
