He was “Mister decontainment” before he became Prime Minister. As he already was senior civil servant, Jean Castex was at the heart of the strategies to fight against the coronavirus epidemic. Today, as France is facing a second wave, despite the hope caused by the announcement that Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine is 90% effective, the French Primer Minister is preparing his long-term strategy and says people have to remain cautious.
In an interview with Le Monde, the Prime Minister says: “as long as there is no vaccine, we must give prospects on the rules of the game”. During his press brief held on Thursday November 12, 2020, he said the lockdown restrictions as people know them today are to be kept until December 1. If the evolution of the health crisis allows it, progressive easing could be instated only past this date.
But Jean Castex is already working on the future with potential rules up to the summer 2021. In the limits he is already drawing, he says remote working will be relevant on the long-term basis in companies.
