Members of the military now must be vaccinated – so have caregivers and firefighters. Starting from September 15, 2021, this obligation applies to all members of the military working in France to fight against the spread of Covid-19.

Mandatory vaccination extends to the army and members of the military deployed in France; the Minister of Armies announced this Friday. This measure already applied to soldiers deployed outside France, like on the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier. Compulsory vaccination for members of the military adds to caregivers and firefighters’ to face the spread of Covid-19.

It will be implemented from September 15, 2021 and apply to the 7,000 soldiers deployed on the domestic territory since the 2015 terror attacks (Opération Sentinelle), as well as those protecting the French skies and the French coasts. Military men and women will have to show a complete vaccination scheme or assessed unfit to their missions.

While the obligation still does not apply to the police, it is being studied for “gendarmes”, according to the AFP and the Gendarmerie Sirpa communications service.

270,000 civilian and military staff members from the Armies have been vaccinated so far.
