Covid: standing consumption allowed in bars and cafés from February 16th

This January 20, Jean Castex once again addressed a press brief to present a calendar lifting Covid-19 measures. The ban of standing consumption in bars and cafés is to come to an end from February 16, 2022.

New rules had to be applied to bars and cafés from the beginning of 2022, because the 5th wave and the Omicron variant hitting France at a crazy pace. This Thursday January 20, 2022, the government gathered to address a calendar easing health measures. Despite growing Omicron cases, ICU hospitalizations are declining, foreshadowing an improvement in the situation by the end of January. Among eased measures, the ban of standing consumption abrogated from February 16, 2022.

More measures have been eased, in two times, including a first one from February 2, applying to the end of compulsory outdoor facemask-weaing and gauges, and the second one from February 16, 2022. Nightclubs are set to reopen from mid-February, standing shows will resume and it will be possible again to eat whilst standing in bars.

At the same time, the ban of eating and drinking in transit and especially trains will be lifted on February 16, like in all movie theaters, where people can eat again.
