High temperatures, bright sunshine... Bad news for the environment and crops. Since June 15, several departments in the Paris region have been under drought alert. These include Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Val-de-Marne and Seine-Saint-Denis.
The drought alert does not involve any water restrictions, but is intended to raise awareness among those concerned. There are plenty of everyday actions you can take to reduce water consumption, conserve resources and avoid wastage. Cities under drought alert are adapting to the situation. Parks and green spaces are watered outside the hottest hours, to avoid evaporation. Some fountains are shut down, while non-drinking water is used for street cleaning and feeding lakes. Floor washing is generally kept to a minimum.
Naturally, the government is encouraging residents of the departments concerned to do the same. The City of Paris encourages its residents to consult and adopt the ten eco-gestures listed by the Paris Climate Agency.
