Many French people are expected to take to the streets of major cities this Thursday, December 5, 2024: a nationwide strike is causing major disruption to public services. Schools, hospitals and health services, transport, energy, administrative services and local authorities: civil servants are protesting against the 2025 Finance Bill, and against the general deterioration in working conditions.

In response to a call from several trade unions, the civil service is on strike this Thursday, December 5, 2024, and is preparing to take to the streets. Numerous demonstrations are also planned across France. In Paris, the procession will set off from Bercy, not far from the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, at around 2pm. [Read more]
This strike is mainly being followed by teachers and school staff, but they won't be the only ones protesting this Thursday. In the cultural sector, several sites are also closed or severely disrupted by this industrial action.
These include theArc de Triomphe, the Panthéon and the Chapelle Expiatoire in Paris, three monuments belonging to the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, a public establishment linked to the Ministry of Culture, responsible for the preservation and operation of some one hundred monuments in France.
So, this December 5, 2024, the Arc de Triomphe, the Panthéon and the Chapelle Expiatoire have announced on their official websites that they will be closed for the day. For visitors who have purchased tickets, theArc de Triomphe website states, " CMN e-tickets will be automatically refunded."
For the time being, the strike is only scheduled for the day of December 5, 2024: unless otherwise indicated, the monuments should reopen to the public the following day.
