The reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris promises to be a memorable event on December 7, 2024, thanks in part to a unique performance by French DJ and producer Michael Canitrot, famous for his innovative Monumental Tour project. The program includes electronic music, light projections and a tribute to heritage, for an evening that promises to be unforgettable.
Michael Canitrot, a true sound architect, transforms historic sites into ephemeral art scenes. For several years now, he has been bringing life to emblematic monuments all over France. In the Île-de-France region, Parisians have discovered him through shows on the Eiffel Tower, Unesco for the Nuit des Musée, the Jardins du Palais Royal and the Château de Vincennes, with a concept combining electronic music, digital art and spectacular lighting.
For the reopening of Notre-Dame, the artist is planning a ten-minute immersive performance, designed especially for this historic occasion.
The artist says he's very excited and honored to be taking part in the reopening of Notre-Dame. There's a mixture of excitement and apprehension, as there are quite a few technical aspects to get right. So the key words over the last few days have been "concentrate and focus".
I was contacted by the Cathedral last spring, right in the middle of the Monumental Tour. It was an ideal time, as I was due to perform at Laon Cathedral, which gave them the chance to see my show live. Everything has accelerated in recent weeks and we've been working non-stop for the past 15 days.
For the show, I rearranged 4 of my tracks with sounds specific to the cathedral, such as the bells. They will be totally adapted and unique for Notre-Dame. In terms of projections, it's a 10-minute show based around 4 tableaux that will combine sounds and visual universes around the theme of universalism and openness to the whole world.
The show will take place at the end of the ceremony, after the concerts, at around 11pm.
It's something we'd already anticipated. When you do a show in December, you're bound to expect rain and bad weather. The whole setup has been designed to work without worry in the event of rain.
This show, the artist tells us, is charged with strong symbolism: celebrating Notre-Dame's resilience after the fire of 2019 and marking a new chapter in the monument's history. By broadcasting the event live on giant screens around the site and on television, Michael Canitrot aims to share this unique moment with a wide audience, in Paris and beyond.
With previous performances acclaimed for their ability to sublimate historic sites, Michael Canitrot has established himself as the DJ for cathedrals, blending art and emotion to offer an experience at the crossroads of eras. Don't miss this exceptional event, where Notre-Dame de Paris will shine in a new light, between past and future. Join us on the evening of December 7, 2024 to celebrate this historic evening.
