It's already 100 years since Gustave Eiffel passed away. The engineer, who died in Paris on December 27, 1923, was involved in the construction of a number of legendary monuments, including the Garabit Viaduct, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Saigon Post Office and, of course, the fascinating Eiffel Tower, for which the City of Light has been famous since its inauguration on March 31, 1889.
To mark the centenary of Gustave Eiffel's death, the legendary Iron Lady has teamed up with Monumental Tour to present an incredible sound and light show, broadcast on television and social networks during the festive season, and more specifically on December 27, the day of the illustrious French engineer's death.
Monumental Tour is the flagship project of dj-producer Michael Canitrot. Blending electro music and heritage, the Monumental Tour has been criss-crossing iconic sites in France and beyond since 2019, offering stunning sound and light shows captured within veritable architectural treasures. After Arras, Strasbourg, Angers, a memorable live show at the Château de Vincennes, the Baleines lighthouse on the Ile de Ré, Mont Saint-Michel, the Cité de l'Automobile in Mulhouse, the Château de Pierrefonds, the Château de Chantilly and the Palais-Royal, Monumental Tour is now tackling France's most emblematic monument, the Eiffel Tower. The program? A sound and light show specially designed for the 100th anniversary of Gustave Eiffel's death. Entitled"Monumental Tour Eiffel", the show will offer viewers"a rediscovery of the monument through a unique fusion of heritage, electronic music and artistic performances", according to a press release issued on December 14.
At a press conference held on November 21, the organizers revealed a little more about the recordings (without an audience) for this show. Filming took place over two nights (Monday night November 20 to Tuesday night November 21, then Tuesday night November 21 to Wednesday night November 22) from 1am to 6am. The photos taken by Internet users and relayed by our colleagues at France Info and Le Parisien bear witness to this.
In addition to Michael Canitrot 's DJ set behind the decks, accompanied by the light show, the organizers of"Monumental Tour Eiffel" have also announced the participation of several guest artists, including pianist and DJ Yann Dulché, the " Spectre " choir, mezzo-soprano singer Yana Mann, and celebrated contemporary dancer Ablaye Diop, who will stroll from the machine room to the top of the Eiffel Tower!
Last but not least, Philippe Torreton will be the voice of Gustave Eiffel at the event.
If you'd like to experience the " Monumental Tour célèbre Eiffel " audio-visual concert from the comfort of your own home, we look forward to seeing you on December 27, 2023. You can follow the sound and light show from 9pm onwards on the social networks of the Eiffel Tower and artist Michael Canitrot, and then on television, on the CSTAR channel, at 10:50pm.
